To be fair, Jav, they do say the Ghost has an 'advanced system' that generates new identities for the ship which sort of eases into your want of a 'one-of-a-kind device' but I agree that it feels a bit... silly? unbelievable?

The system that they mention is known in StarWars EU ..its basically like changing the ship's ID and signature so you can leave a system with a name and come back with a diferent one...

Landy Calrissian's Lady Luck (one EU ship Lando had after the battle of Endor) for example is mentioned to have such system with up to three diferent IDs and simulate cargos to enemy scans..

The problem is  that the system doesnt make the ship invisible to scanners... there is no way in theory that they would had aproached that StarDestroyer undetected unless they wanted to pass as some imperial ship aproaching..

Is my main problem with that show... also that along with the massive stormtrooper killing ... because its making them utterly useless at anything.. same for TIE Fighters carnage... its like the Borg in StarTrek Voyager..  in A New Hope the empire was something big to fear.. stormtroopers being a symbol of the empire's power and even TIE Fighters possed quite a lot of trouble to the Falcon (wich had trouble getting away from 4) and to the rebel fighters... even in the empire strikes back the Falcon is all movie running away from them..

In rebels they make killing stormtroopers and TIE Fighters so easy that they dont impose ANY respect at all.. actually it makes the classic star wars heroes seem useless having that much trouble fighting the empire forces..and infiltrating imperial ships and bases so fraking easy thats laughtable...

Considering that many people find the classic trilogy stormtrooper to be laughtably bad at anything.. Rebels would be creating a whole even lower standard

Ho ho ho!

I believe I saw the dreaded "in selected theatres" (US most likely) on the end of the trailer/teaser message, so it may not appear online in good quality for a while.

Anyway, the last Star Wars Rebels episode was pretty good, I think it's on a break from now until January though, booo! :(

Loving the lightsaber sword (I'm sure lots of people hate it, especially considering how impractical it would probably be in real life, but hey: shut up) and those new Stormtrooper helmets. CGI is looking great too. I have faith in Abrams. :)

Wham-wham-wuzzel!

Pretty, pretty, pretty darn cool! :D
Voice sounds a bit silly though. Was wondering whether Benedict Cumberbatch's playful "no comment" on the questions of his involvement in Star Wars may have just been addressed... but probably not.

In terms of design I love everything - the X-Wings looked closer to the original movie depiction than the full-scale model did - still with subtle changes - the Stormtroopers look great - wonder whether the character at the beginning starts out as a Stormtrooper but joins the good guys or something - though it would be nice to see a "good" Imperial for once.

Only downside - I know, let's make a cool, stylistic change by having the Dark Sider use a lightsaber crossguard - a guard that protects his hands but is equally likely to singe them off...
But it looks like a medieval longsword!!!

Why???

Nerdish nitpick over

/edit - dangit, ninjaed by Danny - well, to prove his point, anyway...

If John Boyega is playing a Stormtrooper, why does he look nothing like Temuera Morrison?

Of course, he could just be disguised as a Stormtrooper, à la Luke and Han in IV.

I thought the whole thing about Jango clones was that the Empire eventually ran out, started using different clones or eventually just hired normal people. No idea what power the Empire is supposed to have in the new films.

Not sure though - again, this is a case of "canon? Whose canon?"

Actually a thought occurs, now you mention Mr Morrison - the EU resurrected Boba Fett... will Abrams?

In case you haven't already done so, I HIGHLY recommend the X-Wing comic series "In the Empires Service" to you. Baron Soontir Fel as Star Wars answer to the "Red Baron" is nothing but excellent.

Ya, the lightsaber looks pretty silly...like, what's the advantage of the horizontal bits? If you're going to make a major design change to something so iconic just to make it look cooler, you better come up with some logical explanation for its purpose.

Otherwise, holy shit that's some nice CGI. Didn't get even a bit of a clue about how good it might be, but it's a teaser so...ya. Not much to talk about other than "ooh purty".

I assume that people are so busy laughing at how dumb your laser sword looks, they don't notice that you're getting in position to take off their head with it.

The visuals look like a big improvement over the prequels (which looked like PS2 cutscenes in some areas).

I don't consider myself much of a Star Wars fan, but I'll definitely be seeing this.

Of course, he could just be disguised as a Stormtrooper, à la Luke and Han in IV.

The clone issue is quite foggy now.... before they were suposed to be regular enlisted guys (evil enlisted guys as they all aparently deserved mercyless deaths). Then some EU sources hinted that at least a big part of them were clones... then when Ep.II came out and revealed the republic clone army Lucas heavily hinted that most classic trilogy soldiers were clones (he had Jango Fett bang his head against the door of the Slave 1 with audio effect and all to link Jango to the trooper that bangs his head in a death star door in an episode 4 blooper) and also that diferences in voices and heights were because the empire cloned many other diferent guys after the clone wars). Then now some sources wich i still havent seen claim that clones were done for after clone wars and all storm troopers now are regular enlisted (again evil enlisted aparently)..

My guess is that the guy who is a main character actor will be just disguised as stormtrooper...  why? becase having him being a stormtrooper who for some reason has to work with the main "good" guys would be actually very good history and a cool move for once...  and you know the rule of un-coolness "If you see any rumor about a movie/series wich would be awesome or really cool it means its a fake.. because it would be cool/clever and they cant allow that" ..

I learned that lesson the hard way over and over again with Galactica

I assume that people are so busy laughing at how dumb your laser sword looks, they don't notice that you're getting in position to take off their head with it.

best explanation ever

Overall i dont dislike the teaser...is just a teaser.... i dont like that stupid medieval sword but is still way better than the lame and ridicolous double-sabers that episode I populariced to sick levels.. also more important is that they stop with the Lucas "dancing jumping lame Jedi vs Sith stupid fight of sillyness" thing...  im not saying they go back to classic trilogy level of skill but the internet proved that there can be absolutelly brilliant saber fights without being stupid

I liked the asthetics liked the X-Wings (not fond on those new thinner wings but i havent seen much of them yet), liked the storm troopers..  TIE Fighters , the Falcon with a new dish... not like the medieval sword

*Swiss Army saber*

I have also seen versions with the little crossguards replaced with swastikas and one with a thousand miniature blades (like the crossguards) lining the entire main blade. :laff:

Oh, and one where they shaped it like a dick.

Ya, the lightsaber looks pretty silly...like, what's the advantage of the horizontal bits? If you're going to make a major design change to something so iconic just to make it look cooler, you better come up with some logical explanation for its purpose.

I read on a very sketchy source (4chan) that the little crossguard bits are actually releasing excess energy because the saber is so difficult to handle.

That was actually my first guess for how they might explain it, but of course it makes no sense considering the lightsabers in the original trilogy had no problem with that. Unless it's supposed to be a far stronger lightsaber that uses more energy, but then why is the stream thinner than other lightsabers?

Trying to think about the logistics of it seems pointless though, since it obviously must have originated as a design decision, and in that case it's just an unnecessary one. But it's also not one that will ruin the movie for me even a little bit if it happens to be good otherwise.

This is StarWars... there is no technobable or any technical explanations..

they wont say onscreen "yes his light saber looks like that to expell excess energy" same as they dont say that TIE Fighters lack shields or that they sound like they do due to ultra-high speed ion engine exausts

Is funny but Hello-Greedo actualy defends this lightsaber with arguments:

Also i think the same about the ball droid...  one it could be just a passing shot while panning across the set ... second whats so bad about it? we have seen many weird droids in SW universe before...  ok most of "spinning ones" were in the prequels and therefore the unwanted connection...

but in the older movies there were some silly ones in ROTJ Jabba's palace

I was talking to someone about the crossguard and they made an interesting point. We've seen that lightsaber handles can be cut through by other sabers. So only a crossguard that has the blade would be able to stop another saber.

I imagine we'll see some fights that use the crossguard that way in the movie.

There have already been enough changes in the prequels, considering that the double saber from TPM was supposedly decades before the standard classic trilogy ones, and the prequel sabers also had a wider color choice, this is a very minor change

Well there was only 4 light sabers in the original trilogy... Obi Wan , Anakin , Vader and Luke .. Obi Wan and Anakin had coincidencily a blue one.. but in ROTJ when Luke did his green one it was proved that there could be more colors than just blue and red...  in the prequels we see literally hundreds of Jedis so it made sense seeing many colors...

As for the double laser it could had been interesting .. but it shouldnt be any advantage... the Jedi Knights have existed for 25000 years in the StarWars universe .. so any light saber would be greatly standarized so the current version (single blade one) would be the most optimal version.. other wise all Jedis would be using double or triple or 10X blade versions by now.. the problem is how then they began over-exagerating it and double-bladed sabers began poping up everywhere... Same as using 2 swords (Asaj Ventress and some other lame stuff)

Grievous i could totally understand.. he wasnt a Jedi.. only a powerfull multi-arm cybord so it totally made sense for him to use several sabers at once and spin them as it would be his only chance against a true Jedi

"Empire day" episode of Rebels was quite good.. actually i would say it  the best of the series so far (i still havent seen "Gathering forces" wich is the last one until janury)..  less lame .. better character traits and pure Empire well used in many levels...

But apart from that something catched my eyes...

At some point Ezra picks a holodisk.

Looks familiar?

It should look familiar... because its exactly the same type of holodisk that made its first (and as far as i know only) appearance in the videogame "Jedi Knight"

Yes... this means someone at LucasFilms/Disney took a look at a videogame to make an element for the series... wich means at least they indeed are taking looks at expanded universe sources... even highly unlikely ones like videogames.

It was a rather pleasant surprise as even Lucas would not have done this...

PD: Also Rebels animators should work harder in animating or modeling new "bypasser" background characters... really... in that same episode in the Imperial parade it was ludicrous how many people they cloned within 20 meters:

They didnt even bothered in changing the hair/skin/clothing colors.. wich would had made the trick...

Extemely pleased that Rian Johnson will be directing Episode VIII, Looper is a great film so I look forward to seeing what he does with Star Wars. The release date seems a little too soon after Episode VII, hope they don't rush it or fuck things up.

The title of the spin-off is intriguing, wonder if it'll be about a rogue Stormtrooper or something like that? Although with Felicity Jones starring, it could be about something completely different. A rogue Jedi, perhaps?

First that comes to mind is that could be about Rogue Squadron as the callsign for the leader is Rogue One or Rogue Leader..

but it also can be like "the rogue one" meaning as you say a rogue character

Episode VII will air in may 2017.. something i dont like.... actually i hate it

Aparently JJ Abrams complained he had little time to do episode VII (tought as said episode VII production started in janury 2013 and airs december 2015 wich is nearly 3 years wich is roughly the time Lucas had to make their movies in both trilogies)..

This means episode VIII will have a bit more than 2 years starting now.. and thats asuming  they do start now and work paralel with episode VII post-production..

too little time + greedy Disney pushing = only can end in another dissaster

same goes for Rogue One... airing date is december next year and it has been anounced now... they have only 18 months

i was liking Disney moves on all this (hiring Kasdam for example) but this doesnt look good at all..
