Maybe it's just me but in spite of the truncated season length the second half feels like it has had a high proportion of filler episodes.

Can you please explain what that means? While the series does have an overall story arc and a strong sense of continuity, it's always been subtle enough that the concept of it having "filler episodes" never really made sense to me.

I have not yet seen this episode (although I've seen enough spoilers to know what went on), but not only is the gif hilarious but because I have no idea what the original line is, Zed's caption... LMAO

Anyway, so, yeah, TV Movie on the way apparently, as is a different MLP for "older" girls - not sure where they're going with that...

All of my what the what?

Actually, this sounds rather fun. If it's done right.

If it's done right.
You' think they'd have to have the same voice actors and would probably share writers, but to be honest I think it may as well be wholly separate. I mean, the touted high school setting seems quite limiting in scope, besides which I personally think the setting will make the characters younger than in mlp itself, ironically.

I don't think it will be a disaster, nor do I think it will adversely affect the main show, but I don't feel too inclined to watch it; never did particularly like shows about school. But I'll wait and see.

Not sure if I'm interested in MLP turning into Totally Spies! but since it's a spinoff, I will be able to ignore it.

Personally, I think if they want to make a series that appeals to older girls, they should probably focus on Rarity.  Not only is she the oldest of the ponies and has the most interest in romance and relationships, but I think her struggle to make it as an independent business owner and as an artist who wants to expand herself as a brand, could provide some more really interesting stories.   Suited for Success was probably what got me into the series and made Rarity into my favourite pony, because there was so much of it I could identify with.

Is Rarity the oldest? In "The Cutie Mark Chronicles", Fluttershy seemed the most physically mature. She's also a year older than Pinkie Pie, we know that.

My Headcannon says Rarity > Applejack > Fluttershy > Twilight > Rainbow > Pinkie. I'd like to think that's not totally made up and is based on my own observations and the observations of others, but the age gap between Fluttershy and Pinkie is the only one actually stipulated by the show.

(God I'm being such a nerd :hmpf: )

I would say Rarity is the most emotionally mature, followed by Applejack.   They are both trying to make it as businesswomen.  Applejack is lucky in that hers is a team-run family mom and pop type establishment in a small town where she has the monopoly on a product of which there is great local demand, but Rarity has to rely on herself and is trying to expand into Canterlot, and fashion in a city obsessed with style is a much more temperamental market.

Horrible sentence structure I know, but snacktime comes first.

I imagine the characters ages sort of like this:
Rarity: 22/23
Applejack: 19/21
Fluttershy: 18
Twilight Sparkle: 18
Rainbow Dash: 17
Pinkie Pie: 17

Rarity makes formal dresswear for a living in a society where clothes are mosty optional.

Another reason she is best pony.

I wouldn't have put Rainbow Dash as that young. She is in charge of all the weather ponies in Ponyville after all - who would put a 17 year old in a leadership position?!

For a pony, 17 years old is right around middle-aged. They usually live to about 35.

My Headcannon says Rarity > Applejack > Fluttershy > Twilight > Rainbow > Pinkie.

My impression is that they're all about the same age (give or take a little), with the exception of Fluttershy, who is older by at least a year, maybe more.

I believe we are speaking in human-equivalent time. Your observation reminds me of this argument I put forth in the last thread though:

Given that the average life expectancy of a pony is between thirty-five to forty years, and assuming that Applejack is in her early twenties in human terms, she would have been only a few years old at the time of the last reunion, most likely too young to recall much of anything.

I'm not sure.  The fact that Rarity has set up her own successful (if small-time) business and independant fashion label suggests she's probably a few years older then the rest of the cast.   I think she could be anywhere between her early or mid twenties.  If not, she's ridiculously mature for her age (she's already quite mature for someone in her early twenties).

I was wondering how the education system worked. Seeing as it seems like none of them except Twilight has gone to school beyond elementary level.

Granted, they apparently teach astrophysics at the elementary level. Which makes sense, given that there are and have been actual ponies responsible for managing the movement of celestial bodies.

I believe we are speaking in human-equivalent time.

So in real terms, they're roughly  halfway between the ages of the target audience and the fanbase.

Generally I'd say the same, though I wouldn't necessarily put Fluttershy out there on her own. I sort of see them as maybe only being one or two years apart, with Rarity, Applejack and Fluttershy being one year (or so) older than the others. Hell, maybe it's just Pinkie who is one year younger than the others? :p

Celestia watches when you sleep, Twilight.
She knows when you're awake.  She watches you when you're on the can.
She sees you when you clop.  She's even seen that lustful glance you gave towards Tori Spelling.
She watches everything, Twilight.   Everything you do.

I thought Pinkie was doing an apprenticeship and the reason she lives with the Cakes is becasue she can't afford her own place cause she blows what money she has on party supplies. At least, that's my headcanon.

Yeah. That's what we're talking about. Hot Diggity Demon made the .mov series. xD It's not particularly my type of thing, but I can watch it and enjoy some of the jokes in it, unlike Cupcakes *shudder*

Now for the long wait for season 4 - but at least there is a season 4! At least I can occupy myself with NCIS for the moment and then Futurama's due back mid-year. Yay! And season 4 is what, October? November? A miracle will happen and it will be earlier? Eh, whatever.

Yeah, but it's not canon. There is enough fanmade stuff to go through that added up is probably longer than the actual show itself, and as much as it's entertaining, it's still not canon.

I'm more looking forward to Anthology 3

Double Rainboom: The 100% show-accurate animation which insists on matching the TV show perfectly in every possible way, other than the fact that they've crammed the thing with dozens of tired old 4chan memes.

"Trollface" and "Everytime you masturbate" references just in the trailer... wonder what other meme-tastic treats they have in store. Might as well just animate the whole thing in .MOV style and be done with it if going down that route.

It wasn't crammed, there were a few background sight gags.

I quite enjoyed the Batman reference in the mannequin scene.

Seriously is the manner in which taking this statement I fail so to do.

Quote from: Zachary Rich
I want to thank everyone for letting me know about your concerns over the Troll Face. Here is my official response: The Troll Face is not the main villain, nor will it be used at any other point in the story other than what you see in the trailer here. It is being used for two reasons: 1) To cement in stone that this is a fan-made episode. 2) As a "call-out" to the non-brony community to help build hype and interest in the film. Please do not judge an entire work of art based on five seconds.

.mov is done with now, although I did read partial of the Applejack comic that went alongside it (but not all, although it's pretty obvious what went down from swag.mov)

I agree about the 'do not judge on 5 seconds'. The first five seconds of the fanmade clip 'Cupcakes' is adorable.

I linked a couple of pony clips to a friend (who has never watched any pony stuff at all) concerning the use of language and how even removing or changing (or in this case "bleeping") a word in a sentence can change the entire meaning of it. I warned him that the pony side of youtube was a vortex which can get weird depending on which vid you watch.

I didn't hear back from him for about an hour, to which then he said 'I'm stuck in the vortex! I've been watching a pony say 'oatmeal' on a ten minute loop'

*facepalm*

I'm not judging the entire thing, just what I can see of it. I'm just not a fan of regurgitated 4chan memes, no matter where they rear their heads.

I didn't read that statement, I simply watched the trailer, but I can't say I agree with the idea of putting memes into it, purely to create "hype" amongst non-bronies.

The decision to make the trailer meme-heavy was probably designed to create hype, but it makes the whole thing look artistically weak. Hence my .MOV statement, parodies are better places to load up with memes and alternate humour, it doesn't seem to fit well with this project's stated goal of making a show-quality fan episode.

Alll of the above is just IMO, I'm hoping the actual thing turns out well overall, but my expectations are lowered. :)

Lauren Faust may be joining them, but they're still not allowed to go on with that game, at least, they have to eliminate the 'pony' part. Damn Hasbro, they could've made it an official game and scored money off of it.

Oh well, at least they'll make something of it. I'm curious to see what.

There's rumors going around about a movie, but I'm not sure what to believe anymore.

Season 4 has been confirmed though. What do people want to see? I'd love to see more of the Mane 6's backstories, like Dash's and Fluttershy's parents/families. Also Scootaloo. Seriously, there's a lack of pegasus parentage.
