What's wrong with a tribute episode?

Sure they're probably gonna take the piss out of it but that's their particular style.
See the Osama Bin Laden episode? They compared him to Elmer Fudd for gods sake!!

yeah, they're making a reference to the most popular well-known long running animated series of all time.

Ha ha ha! The characters look even more hilarious in psuedo-Groening style. Can't wait to see it!

Parker and Stone are just having a bit of fun. They love all kinds of toons, and it shows--even if they slapped around Pokémon's psychotic overmarketing. This parody is no more inherently offensive than The Simpsons' own celebrity slaps, "cultural humor," or Itchy & Scratchy and Battling Seizure Robots. (Maybe even less so; I'll have to see it.)

On a related note: I saw the rerun of The Simpsons' "...Are Going To Brazil!" episode, after all the controversy it caused, and was surprised by two things: (1) it wasn't that big a deal--everything Brazil's government found offensive is pretty much public record; and (2) for the first time in years, a Simpsons episode got the old magic back and didn't completely eat, suck, and blow.

I have no idea how this equals a new low. This doesn't even approach a new low.

Ewwwwwwww. Halfway through the episode, I had come this close (pinches fingertips together) to hurling up about three times.

The second half was not nearly as spewkey, but just as hilarious. All the Simpsons references were downright deferential--save for the suggestion that, after thirteen years, it's not as fresh as it was. Whether that's true or not, or an insult or not, is up to the viewer. But when Parker and Stone don't like you, they go after you a lot harder than THAT. (Just ask the Ramseys, Gary Condit, and OJ.)

Ironically, when South Park first aired, I hated it--a corrupt mayor? A stupid police officer? An abusive teacher? Simpsons did it, Simpsons did it. But before long, the show went in its own direction and I fell for it big time.

Unlike The Simpsons these days, I can't wait to see next week's show (even if it's going to make me sick to my guts).

the episode was goddamned hi-larious.
"he just made me close my eyes and suck it through a hose" hahahahh

i don't see how paying homage to the simpsons equaled a "new low". explain your words, homerjaysimpson.

I didn't see it, but theoretically I like the idea. The Simpsons are a parody type of show, it's about time they got parodied themselves. They are an institution now, the time has come!

From what I've read at SP sites it was a good episode, pity I won't see it till next year. I like the idea of a Simpsons parody  :)

I've watched it, but I get bored of it too easily. I might make special effort to watch that episode though, I like the idea.

I finally saw the episode. The first act was good. The rest of the show made me remember why I stopped watching.

Trust me: today's episode about the Catholic Church is the grossest episode they could possibly come up with--and the really really I-know-it's-a-cartoon-but-wwarrrrffffff gross part doesn't directly involve the Church scandals. (They're a LOT nicer towards the Church than they could've been, while still addressing the core issues of late. They even manage to touch on the US Pledge of Allegiance.)

Tweek, don't you dare peek at this until you've seen it. You're gonna s***.

An instant classic; might just be my series favorite. Poop jokes and philosophy, co-existing in harmony!

(I still wonder if Jesus moved away; haven't seen him since Super Best Friends, and he's never around for these kinds of issues anymore.)
