I watched a few episodes for the past week and what I say is...

I mean it's great, it's really good for something that's meant for the young and girly :p. But what I can say is that I like the remix and parodys little bit more. (This is my favorite kind of magic!) I also learned something....never make fun of Bronies! I'm I gonna see this show again? Probably not, but then again I probably will occasionally. It doesn't seem like my type of show, but I'll check it out every now and then.  :)

A TOTPD? Sweet!

Tara has damn good musical talent and I'm glad it was featured here.

Twilight Sparkle's singing voice is supplied by Rebecca Shoichet.

Well, there you go.

Also, did anyone pick up on the fact that, prior to the big reveal, Princess Mi Amore Cadenza's magic was a different colour from that seen in Twilight's flash-back of her casting a love spell on the arguing couple?

Well, it fooled me good then! Regardless, the singing was brilliant.

Well, there you go.

Episode one is nothing like the rest of the show to be entirely honest. The rest of season one is episodic in nature and hits upon lessons in a not-so-pushy-shovey-in-your-face kinda way and throws a few things in for people older than the age of five to enjoy, I promise. Arguably all the longer episodes have a different feel than the typical half hour content. I wasn't super sold after the first episode, and my friend really wasn't, but now we all catch it on YouTube.

Unreal (I always want to type out UrL as your shorthand but I end up feeling silly and don't), don't be afraid, assimilate! Just because you like it doesn't make you strange or anything if that's what is holding you back. You've got us here to talk to about it. It's by no means a super girly show. It's just really colorful!

Twilight's parents must have been pretty well off if her childhood bedroom is anything to go by.

There have been the odd occasion when Rarity has been pretty quick to resort to physical violence (e.g. the Manticore, keeping Applejack away from Tom) but I have to wonder if she doesn't like it all just a little bit too much.

Speaking of Twilight's parents, why were they only in the episode for like 2 seconds? I mean I was kind of wondering where they were and what they thought of Shining Armour's wedding and stuff. If he and Twilight are so close, I'd imagine that they both have a good relationship with their folks. But they've only appeared twice and both times haven't said anything. Wassupwiththat?

THey're figments of her imagination. In fact she got her place at the university through a special bursary for underprivileged children, prior to which she'd been living on the street, performing magic tricks for food. She suppresses the memories of all of this. Her "loving" brother abandoned her for most of her life, which is why she was never told about his wedding personally - he only invited her because Celestia favoured her, and would have had nothing to do with her at all otherwise.

Basically everything Twilight thought she did before coming to Ponyville is a lie. A terrible, terrible lie.

Twilight's parents must have been pretty well off if her childhood bedroom is anything to go by.

We really don't know how prominent the Sparkles must be. Mr. and Mrs. Sparkle seemed to be very grateful, the kind of lucky-like-winning-the-lottery grateful, when they enrolled Twilight into Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. However, it also seems like powerful magic is a key trait in Sparkles. Shining Armor was able to cast quite a barrier over all of Canterlot, and all by himself (as it seems, Princess Cadance probably didn't assist him until the Changeling invasion) and for days straight. Also, during "A Canterlot Wedding Part I", when Queen Chrysalis disguised as Princess Cadance was talking to Shining Armor back at his townhouse, Shining Armor did mention that he wanted to wear the badge because it was his uncle's, so Twilight's and Shining Armor's uncle must have been important enough in the Canterlot force (or whatever they have) to have been awarded that emblem.

I feel like a sore loser since I already posted that video at the very top of this page...  :(

But anyways, I've grown to adore Hotdiggedydemon cartoons. I've never understood why people thought Shed.Mov was the most horrible thing to come from the fandom.

It could have been way worse....like that Cupcakes video I'm not gonna link.

You guys should see this dude's reaction to Magic.Mov, it's pretty legit and fun to watch.

I wasn't listening to Celestia Radio at the time and missed that Part Two had arrived!

This will have to tide me over until the next episode of Turnabout Storm.

Actually I do think shed.mov is much worse than Cupcakes. But it is also an extremely exaggerated parody of the show, which makes it actually pretty damn funny. The first time I watched it I was kind of bothered by it, but now I find myself quoting it from time to time. I mean hotdiggedydemon is just taking the assumptions and contrivances that the show offers (ie. Rainbow Dash is a lesbian) and just runs with it. That makes it so much funnier. Magic.mov is incredibly funny too.

Cupcakes is just something that's supposed to be shocking and creepy and it completely fails. It's stupid and pointless and honestly anyone who thinks Cupcakes is scarier/creepier than anything hotdiggedydemon does is a freaking pussy.

Hmm, I wouldn't say I dislike Hotdiggedydemon's videos, but the style of humour doesn't appeal to me so much.

On the subject of parodies though, I do quite like Friendship is Witchcraft - even more since it inspired this, which had me floating in a special circle of heaven when I first listened to it...

I really hope Party.mov actually... comes soon.

Also, I was watching the Cutie Mark Crusaders again, and I can't be the only one whose bothered by the whole Twist-rejection, right?  It felt like Apple Bloom couldn't handle her friend getting a cutie mark before she did, and froze her out from that point.  It doesn't help when we see her new friends giving Twist some really nasty looks in another episode.

Ith weally wude.

Nah, not just you. To be honest there are a few "er, hang on?" points to some of the show's messages IMO, but then...well...

Also It's also referenced nicely in Ep 4 of Friendship is Witchcraft.

There's a lot of deeply disturbing stuff in the show if you think about it.

Hearth's Warming Eve is a state-sponsored public holiday that says (either truthfully or mythologically) that everypony will die a horrible frozen death unless they all act nice towards each other constantly.

Then, shortly after, you have Pinkie Pie talking about how everyone is her friend, and you wonder if they're just pretending either because:

a) They believe the Windigos will freeze them to death if they don't.

b) Anytime Pinkie *doesn't* get a smile she turns utterly psycho-stalker on her target until they smile, making it easier to just smile at her and pretend so she buggers off.

And that's before you start thinking about the obvious caste system with the earth ponies having to do way more work than anypony else.

There are a lot of nice things to observe about their society though, for example their military tech is pretty much non-existant, transport tech is at a Victorian level, but medicine tech seems to be magically-assisted and far more advanced than what we have IRL (broken bones can mend in a few days).

That sounds like a description of Barney I read.  The reviewer said they found Barney creepy in that he constantly chucks quick fixes to cheer up depressed kids, rather then actually trying to fix their problems.  From what you said, Pinkie Pie sounds a bit Stepfordy in that she can't accept the fact of life that not everyone in the world will want to be her friend, and genuinely overcompensates to avoid that fact.

It was an interesting plot, Twist, wasn't it?   Is it bad that Sweetie Bot may be my actual factual favourite pony ever?
