That was an absolutely stunning finale. This whole season was absolutely spectacular, it improved upon the first season so much it's almost difficult to comprehend.

This show is easily becoming one of my favorites on television. I am going to have a very hard time waiting for next season.

Wait, I thought Sansa ran off with the Hound, did they come back when they heard Stannis was beaten? Or were they in the middle of packing and said "Well, we don't need to go now, catch ya later dude!"

Sansa refused to go with the Hound, in much a similar manner that she refused to go with Baelish; the Hound would have been a better choice in my opinion though.  She's a stupid brat; I almost have sympathy for her sometimes, but she is quick to show her selfish stupidity and make a grand case for her own death.

I think after this week's episode, my new most hated character is Grand Master Pycelle.  Took a long time to build the case that he's a right selfish prick muddling in the affairs of others without honor.  It's also taken me a long time to determine that Baelish is a fuck prick and Varys seems to be a pretty cool dude.  Then again, they'll probably eventually show that Varys is an asshole too at some point. :(

There are only three characters in the books (and I assume the series will showcase this as well) that know how to play the game of thrones.

Book 5 isn't as bad as everyone says so far. But seeing as how nobody on peel reads these books, nobody cares!

There's only one character who will win, in the end. My money's on Varys. The Game of Thrones has many pawns, and only one real King.

Or maybe, the twist is 'the only winning move is not to play'!

Heh. I played one of those games recently. I tell you, it's hard not to play sometimes. Though, it can be worth it not to lose.

In short, I agree with you.

Sometimes a story is good enough that it warrants the extra attention span required to read beyond 500 pages. Game of Thrones is one, in my opinion.

Maybe you should try the books before deciding that you could never read something beyond an arbitrary limit.

The longest book I've read is Infinite Jest. 1100 pages hardcover size and smaller than normal font.

Jon might not be who we think he is.  He might have an Aunt with some pets running around causing all kinds of trouble.

Yes.  That was the point of my highly trollative comment. :)

I don't believe I ever read any preview chapters either.  Although I do have the first 4 books sitting here wrapped in plastic.  Received them as christmas gifts, and I'm still debating on whether I want to read them closer to the present or wait 7 years for the television series to finish.  Since the books are just sitting here, I'll probably go toward the former though to be honest.

She's hardly ever around (what with all the filming for this and other shows) but yeah, she used to be in a few of my classes...

The TV show and the books are different from each other.  In the books Ros (sweet Ros) doesn't exist and other characters are alive that get killed in the TV show.

I believe the show creators and the author have discussed that some characters were split apart into different personality traits for use in the show... and yes there are some characters important in the novels that got the axe early on in the series, but will presumably have fill ins to keep the major story arcs consistent.

My issue is which medium to consume first, as reading and watching a story told in different mediums brings about strange relations with the two works, depending upon which you do first.  I started watching the show before being familiar with the books, and the books are farther into the story than the show is now... but the author has a bad habit of taking forever to finish the books; arguably the show may finish before the novels.  At either way, I will hit a brick wall at some point becoming enthralled with the material and not being able to further learn the story unfold due to either waiting for the next show airing or the next book.

The TV show and the books are different from each other.  In the books Ros (sweet Ros) doesn't exist and other characters are alive that get killed in the TV show.

They tried very hard in the first season to do it by the book.  But the result was rather lackluster (not that season 1 was bad, but it did ruin the flow at times).  So they decided - with approval from George R.R. Martin to be more 'relaxed' in terms of following the story.  The major events obviously happen as they do in the book.  Minor characters may appear different, some are not included and new might be invented.

Characters introduced all ready in the second book may not even appear until the first or fourth season, because that's when they begin to matter.  Indeed, rather than having too many characters on screen, these characters will likely first appear when they are about to matter for the plot.

Which I think is a very good decision.

Multiple storylines work great in books, but not so fantastic on film.  And season 2 shows they understand this point, because every episode doesn't include every storyline as it did in season 1.

The handmaiden that Dany makes out with in the books was killed in the TV show because her EU work visa ran out.

No need to kill off every character, you can also just make them disappear or not stay relevant to the plot anymore.  Imagine if How I Met Your Mother had to kill off every character it no longer needed.

True but I'm sure there are a lot of fans who wanted to see the makeout scene.

Catelyn Stark. She was supposed to be naked in episode 1, if you go by the books.

Putting good odds on Ygritte, though.

Varys nude scene would be awesome. The show loves to make you really uncomfortable while watching it sometimes, and has a lot of cards left to play. :p
