I normally rewatch episodes. I don't think I can bear to watch this one again. Just, damn. Most brutal thing the show has ever done, by a long shot. I was all FUCKFUCKFUCK FUCK YOU!! at the screen. Quite interesting to note that some people who read the book literally took it and tore it in half when reaching this point of the story. Also, loving this:

The Red Wedding was the moment when I realized that GRRM wasn't telling the usual medieval fantasy story.
Edit - haven't seen a single episode, I'm talking about my experience reading the books.

You're missing some spectacular television, but the TV series does have a number of small deviations from the books (which send many fans into paroxysms of rage over the smallest and least relevant details). Honestly, it's worth watching if only to see Tyrion and Tywin brought to life so perfectly, and Cersei and Joffrey so well-played that many people are unable to seperate actor from character and now have a deep and abiding hatred for the players rather than the parts.

Maz, I think it has less to do with thinking they're going to survive the series in general and more to do with how SOON they were killed off. I absolutely expected Rob and Catelyn to die at some point, sooner than later even, but THIS soon (halfway through the third book of a seven book series) and at the same time, and in such a brutal manner, was still pretty jarring and unexpected. Even once the scene began and I knew they wouldn't live past the episode, seeing their throats cut was still pretty shocking. But yes, I knew these characters wouldn't ultimately be the focus of the show, you could tell even from the beginning of season 2 that they were a distraction, and didnt have the same potential to become the major protagonists as other characters.
I would be much more surprised to see Arya, Bran, Tyrion, Danaerys, Jon Snow, Sam, or even Joffrey die unless it's near the very end of the series, although I know that any of them could and most likely will. In fact, even Jaime is starting to look like a more promising character as of this season.
If I has to guess who was as good as dead though, Sansa, Cersei, Tywin, Shay, Varys, Baelish, Stannis, and Marjorie are all up there, unless one of them develops magical powers all of a sudden. I'm not holding out too much hope for Ser Jorah either, even though he's one of my favorite characters.

Yeah, tbh, it'd be for the best if she chilled in Essos, freed all the slaves, established a benevolent dictatorship/ cult of worship based around peace and prosperity and let all the assholes in Westeros get murdered by white walkers... maybe make a quick flight over to pick up her uncle, do a casual fly-by burning of casterly rock for the fun of it, then get back in time for a bubble bath.

Fun times (not spoilers, unless you consider history spoilers[1]). I am often reminded as I am watching Game of Thrones how much GRRM is trying compile the brutality of over 15 centuries of human history into a few. As Homer Simpson once said, 'people die every day; you could wake up dead tomorrow'. [1] Great Britain won the Seven Years' War!!!</spoilers>

So...Jaime Lannister for best character at this point? Can't wait to see what happens with him this season. If they don't change any of what happens with him in the books, then you're in for a treat. As well as a couple of potential surprises. Tywin is still the best Lannister for me at the moment though. Charles Dance has played the old bastard to perfection, and I can't wait to see how they handle the next portion of his arc.

Hell fucking yes! Finally! As much as I wish his death was more bloody and how it was in the book I think watching Joffrey rip open his throat might have been much even for a hated character and HBO but hey. I am sooo glad to see him gone. Though I am worried that they are moving this season too quickly. The wedding was brilliantly done as was the episode. Went very well along with the book. Can't wait for the fall out of the events over the next few episodes. Jack Gleeson's acting is wonderful was wonderful. Lady Olenna was very sneaky if I wasn't watching for it and didn't know about her part I would have never noticed. I hope for much more Jon Snow/ Kit Harington cause eye candy for me.
