The most shocking twist in this episode was the number of lines Rickon had.

I normally rewatch episodes. I don't think I can bear to watch this one again.

Just, damn. Most brutal thing the show has ever done, by a long shot.

I was all FUCKFUCKFUCK FUCK YOU!! at the screen.

Quite interesting to note that some people who read the book literally took it and tore it in half when reaching this point of the story.

Also, loving this:

The Red Wedding was the moment when I realized that GRRM wasn't telling the usual medieval fantasy story.

Edit - haven't seen a single episode, I'm talking about my experience reading the books.

You're missing some spectacular television, but the TV series does have a number of small deviations from the books (which send many fans into paroxysms of rage over the smallest and least relevant details).

Honestly, it's worth watching if only to see Tyrion and Tywin brought to life so perfectly, and Cersei and Joffrey so well-played that many people are unable to seperate actor from character and now have a deep and abiding hatred for the players rather than the parts.

You really should watch the show MC.  Season 1 was about a 90% straight adaptation from the 1st book.  Season 2 and season 3 not so much but still they are pretty near dead on adaptations.

And besides a naked Ros is worth watching.

That actually bothers me.  I liked Ygrette, and thought they made a great couple.  Besides, Jon's vows were made on shitty pretenses... it's not like Lord Mormont never got the opportunity to have a family and shit.  Also, the Wildlings aren't the reason there's a wall there, so they're not so bad when you really think about it. :(

I thought Snow was trying to unite them against the White walkers or something, Crows and Wildlings, I don't know what his freakin' plan is now.... you know nuthin' Juhn Snuh!

Heh, I love her accent. The plan is - run away. ??? Profit.

Re: The Red Wedding - I like how it seems that nobody has been watching the same show I've been watching. I gave up hoping any of the 'good' characters would survive as soon as the butcher's son and Sansa's wolf were killed. Then of course Ned Stark's head jumped off his body. Also, Drogo. He was one of the only actors I recognised and was good to look at too. :nono: But all that was season 1, so I don't see why anybody would think things would be smooth sailing further into the series.

Watching that 'bastard bastard bastard' video - how fast did Juhn Snuh (the other male eye candy) age?! I guess that's what facial hair does...

This video was in an article I was reading. Do people seriously outwardly react that crazy to things in TV shows/movies? Like the girl with the dog (aww doggy to the rescue). I normally just laugh, like, what will they think to do next, as if anything could shock us now.. I guess some people haven't figured it out yet. They're all going to die. We already thought Bran and littler boy were dead for two minutes back whenever that was, I can't say I'd be surprised if they did it for real at some point, especially now they've split up so people can pick them off easier. :shifty:

It surprises people because they expect good to triumph over evil.. because they expect revenge to be served... because for a second it really looked like winning, if only one more little step.

Maz, I think it has less to do with thinking they're going to survive the series in general and more to do with how SOON they were killed off. I absolutely expected Rob and Catelyn to die at some point, sooner than later even, but THIS soon (halfway through the third book of a seven book series) and at the same time, and in such a brutal manner, was still pretty jarring and unexpected. Even once the scene began and I knew they wouldn't live past the episode, seeing their throats cut was still pretty shocking. But yes, I knew these characters wouldn't ultimately be the focus of the show, you could tell even from the beginning of season 2 that they were a distraction, and didnt have the same potential to become the major protagonists as other characters.

I would be much more surprised to see Arya, Bran, Tyrion, Danaerys, Jon Snow, Sam, or even Joffrey die unless it's near the very end of the series, although I know that any of them could and most likely will. In fact, even Jaime is starting to look like a more promising character as of this season.

If I has to guess who was as good as dead though, Sansa, Cersei, Tywin, Shay, Varys, Baelish, Stannis, and Marjorie are all up there, unless one of them develops magical powers all of a sudden. I'm not holding out too much hope for Ser Jorah either, even though he's one of my favorite characters.

So, I guess that the next wedding will be the second episode of S4 then. I'm looking forward to it - and all the debts that a particular Lannister will be paying shortly after that.

I thought it was a good place to end the season on over all, and they did manage to touch on what's going on with most everyone pretty well.  Season 4 will be pretty bitchin too. :D

I particularly liked the Red Woman saying "This war of five kings means nothing." Nice for someone to finally acknowledge that. It's pretty awesome that Stannis is now going to focus on the Whitewalkers. Makes me think that while everyone else is killing each other, he'll get a reputation for defending from the Whitewalkers and end up becoming the King...right before Daenarys comes flying in to fuck him over with her dragons. Magic vs. magic, bitches!

Or maybe she'll just establish a kingdom on the other edge of the world and realize that her real battle, the freedom and prosperity of her species is more important than her selfish impulse to fulfill the law regarding her birth rights.

Yeah, tbh, it'd be for the best if she chilled in Essos, freed all the slaves, established a benevolent dictatorship/ cult of worship based around peace and prosperity and let all the assholes in Westeros get murdered by white walkers... maybe make a quick flight over to pick up her uncle, do a casual fly-by burning of casterly rock for the fun of it, then get back in time for a bubble bath.

Look through Youtube for Game of Thrones with lightsabers. Some of them are good, some of them are bad. But it's worth figuring out which are which for yourself.

Fun times (not spoilers, unless you consider history spoilers[1]).  I am often reminded as I am watching Game of Thrones how much GRRM is trying compile the brutality of over 15 centuries of human history into a few.

As Homer Simpson once said, 'people die every day; you could wake up dead tomorrow'.

So...Jaime Lannister for best character at this point? Can't wait to see what happens with him this season.

The next episode looks to be a good one.

Seems like like lots of comedy buddy duos now, Jaime and Brienne, Margaery and Olenna, Tyrion and Bronn, Hound and Arya, Sam and John, the final episode will be a comedy talent show (spoilers!) :)

If they don't change any of what happens with him in the books, then you're in for a treat. As well as a couple of potential surprises.

Tywin is still the best Lannister for me at the moment though. Charles Dance has played the old bastard to perfection, and I can't wait to see how they handle the next portion of his arc.

Yeah Tywin has been awesome in the TV series. Still prefer Tyrion but that's because I didn't like Tywin in the books but as tnuk said Charles Dance had been fantastic.

Arya and The Hound were great. I was glad to see Arya get more awesome than she already was.

I wouldn't be surprised considering how many new licensed LEGO sets are being made, but a google search would reveal that they are in fact not making LEGO Game of Throne sets.  Unless you count a few convincing custom minifigures, that is.
