Why do so many adult cartoons use the same family formula?

Seriously, most of the well-known adult cartoons use that same 'dysfunctional family' formula, and I am getting tired of it. Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show.... same family formula. Seriously, can't people think of another formula? Futurama and South Park are just about the only ones that don't use that exhausted family formula (out of the well-known adult cartoons anyway)

Simpsons started it, and all the other shows you named copied it verbatim.  Note that the last three shows you named have something in common: they were created by the same talentless inoriginal hack.

I once spent a particularly thrilling Friday night browsing through the Nightmare Fuel pages (and, subsequently, the page on Public Service Announcements) and pretty much crapped my pants. But, yeah, it's a total time sink.

Actually, The Simpsons didn't start it. The Simpsons was just the first animated show to use the family formula.
