They killed my favorite character? That's it: I'm not watching it any more! Actually, I haven't watched it in months, but it's the thought that counts, right?

Well, I watched that one and it was kind of good set-up for the death. The new dog seems like just a joke ( ). Now I can get back to not watching this (not totally effective) shit.

Pfft, two of the upcoming episodes scheduled to air are called "Brian's a Bad Father" and "Brian the Closer." No way is his death permanent.

Here's the description for the episode "Christmas Guy" that airs in three weeks: When Carter Pewterschmidt cancels the annual Quahog Christmas carnival, because he hates the holiday, Peter must transform his father-in-law from a Scrooge into a hometown hero in order to salvage the event. Meanwhile, Stewie devises a master plan to get the one and only thing he wants for Christmas. So my theory is: At the beginning of this last episode, Stewie tells Brian he went forward in time to Christmas to get a toy. So in this episode, he could wait for himself to show up so that he can either tell himself to save Brian, or use the return pad to do it himself.

I liked how Quagmire was watching the Red Sox at Brian's funeral.
It's even funnier since Quagmire hated Brian.

I haven't given a shit about this show since, like, 2002, but I can't believe they killed off Brian. I agree with most people in this thread that he'll probably be brought back, though.

Brian is obviously going to return 100%.
In either flashbacks, heaven or maybe even brought back. You got two episodes coming up that reference Brian's name. Plus, with the anger from the fans, Seth is likely going to bring Brian back.
Honestly, what were they thinking? Did they not realize their ratings will plummet?

I always found the haters for Family Guy to be inexplicable. It's generally a sketch show. There's some plot in there to tie it together, but at its core it's the same kind of random sketch nonsense that everybody loves Monty Python for... and that's the thing they hate about Family Guy. Hypocrisy, thy name is everybody who hates on Family Guy.
Nevertheless, if they don't bring Brian back, I will join the ranks of haters. Not to say I will be any less derisive of them.

Exactly. I can accept the fact that the show doesn't give a shit about character or story, but its ONLY job is to be funny and it can't even do that well. Jokes that weren't amusing to begin with are often stretched out beyond the two minute mark, a lot of stuff that starts out funny keeps getting brought back and repeated until the dead horse is no more, and the writers seem to think that simply referencing something (usually from the 80s) constitutes "humour;" likewise for just being offensive without a point to make. It's not remotely clever, it's rarely funny, and any idiot could write it. Thing is, I actually did used to like the show, and still hold the pre-cancellation era in some sort of regard. Episodes like DaBoom - when the show was firing on all cylinders - were full of rapid-fire hilarity but it seems like the writers pretty much stopped trying once the show came back. Family Guy is the only show that reached a level so terrible I abandoned it. I'm normally a very loyal viewer - I've stuck with everything else, no matter how bad it's gotten (I watched Weeds and the American version of The Office the whole way through... I still watch The Simpsons, for cryin' out loud!), but Family Guy is the only one that reached a level so terrible I had to abandon it. I still remember the episode which was the last straw for me: Patriot Games. It embodied everything terrible about what the show had become, and the show had already been a chore to sit through for well over a season up to that point. So, there. I think that's more than enough to justify my feelings towards the show. I also don't see how hating one incarnation of a sketch comedy while liking Monty Python makes me a hypocrite. That's like saying hating any single animated series means you must also hate Futurama. A show's format and its quality are two very different things.

I pretty much agree with Beamer on the abandoned Family Guy statement. Season 5-ish is where I finally couldn't take it any longer. I mean Season 4 wasn't that bad, it was okay, but the crap really hit the fan around Season 5 or 6. I don't watch anything past that.

You guys are crazy. I still laugh my tits off at every episode of Family Guy. Perhaps its humour is just too subtle and sophisticated for your bourgeois sensibilities.
