Red Dwarf is a fantastic show...my favourite show of all time alongside Futurama so naturally I'm very pleased it's making a comeback.

I've got one request though...can they please finish it off properly this time? The way series 8 ended was dreadful, mainly due to the cliffhanger ending which, until now (hopefully anyway...), had never been resolved.

Such an awesome show deserves a fitting ending to the story and I honestly didn't think that they'd ever get a chance to put right what happened in the final scenes of "Only the Good..."...but somehow, they have managed to salvage a chance.

I just hope they don't screw it up.

Also am I the only one who's not too enthusiastic about the whole "clip show" idea? I'd rather they just did three proper episodes instead and allowed the show to go out on a real high.

But hey, who knows? Maybe the clip show will be brilliant? I'm prepared to reserve full judgement until I actually see it in any case.

It might make a good lead-in / reminder for all those less than fanatic viewers who have forgotten what it was like. Perhaps. Maybe.

I was an avid and ardent viewer of this show for a while back when it was on; I watched it almost every week. But then I just didn't keep up with it anymore after they took it off PBS.  I would welcome seeing some of the old episodes again; should really watch some of them on youtube sometime.

The episodes I saw were always consistently good.

They're on dvd.

That failed with season 6 and beyond.  Because of the time span between each and every later season, there's no chance in hell the show can ever actually end.... and the actors are getting too old now.

Red Dwarf movie?  wtf?

Now it's being shown on Dave, I've realised that there are very few genuinely funny moments.

But the characters keep you watching.

Hence why I hope this two part "special" finishes it off properly.

The movie will never happen and the cast are all getting too old anyway...

The one thing I liked about the cliffhanger ending was that it seemed like it could all be part of Rimmer's fevered imagination and they might just manage to ass-pull themselves out of it. Season 8 could turn out to have been an hallucination brought on by the stress of being Ace Rimmer. He could get back to Starbbug and find that nothing after "Blue" (which was okay, but not great - the Rimmer experience ride itself was brilliant and the song was awesome but the rest ofthe episode sucked) actually happened.

Moving on. New Red Dwarf in the Easter, this was actully a small part of an idea that they came up with around the time Series 8 finished. Hopefully it's not all been a dream, and everything will be fine.

Fuck damn, I haven't watched this show in a long time. When I did use to watch it though, it was probably my third or fourth favorite thing that I ever actually watched.

I don't remember it hardly ever boring me.

Since I haven't seen much past series 8 (that's what "Blue" was in, right?) I don't know..... even if that were the case, it seems like a cheap fix for a very bad path....  I really loved Red Dwarf, but I am pretty sure it's dead now.. and honestly should stay that way lest the show should feel ruined.  It will always have a special place in my heart though. :hmpf:

Blue was in Series 7. I have all the DVDs, but I don't watch series 7, the new Kochanski wasn't a character I like. But she did look good as soon as she got rid of the Elvis hair. Series 8 wasn't bad, there were a few good lines the the two bags of self raising.

Bump.

Three new episodes of Red Dwarf are being produced with the original actors. They form a trilogy called 'Back to Earth', to be broadcast in England starting April 10th.
First new Red Dwarf in nearly a decade!!

Wonder how they are going to solve the "all old crew is alive" thing...

some old drafts for season 8 mentioned Lister and friends getting back in the Dwarf safe but the rest of the crew marooned outside in Starbugs/bluemidgets while an angry Hollyster looked throught a window at them...

It was the episode where Holo-Rimmer leaves :( the end is still very touching.

Though apparently they still tried (and possibly succeeded) to get Chloe Annett to appear so I'm expecting a twist on that front.

Soooo, thoughts on ep one? The new bunkroom sets look good and so do the CGI sets (the corridors, the water tank deck). Best of all is the old Red Dwarf model is back (albeit in CGI) instead of the silly remastered penis ship. The CGI testicles looked ridiculous. The story is... um... well... there doesn't seem to be one. It seems like it kick-starts properly tomorrow night when they actually do what the title says

Took a while for Cat to remember how to act without looking like he was rehearsing lines :hmpf:

Why is Rimmer's H different? I miss shiny clunky silver H.

WHy are the scutters CGI? Faaaaake. I preferred it when they were metal muppets.

CGI looks craaaaap.

I do like Rimmer's new uniform.

haha Kryten's water wings

I thought the Red Dwarf could only power one hologram at a time?? .... oh wait, Rimmer asked the same question - hmm!! Aliens??

The portal looked great though!

I did enjoy the first part and I have nothing bad to say about it. That been said, I was disapointed about there being no explanation on how they got out of the events of Only the Good, and you can't really dismiss it, even if it is a stand-alone piece.
Also, I was disappointed with the fact of waiting another 23 hours and 30 minutes for the next episode because I really got into it. You know how it goes.
