Time for some short reviews: I Love You Philip MorrisThis film was fantastic. I don't think I've laughed so much in a while. I may or may not be a sucker for con artist films though. Jim Carrey's best since Eternal Sunshine. (And, yes, I know it's a terribly short review given how much I liked this.) A-Life During WartimeSo I found out about this film when I heard Paul Reubens was in it. I decided to give it a look. Instead of him being some central awesome character, he was a ghost dead husband of some weird sister. And that wasn't the weirdest thing about this film: pedophile dads, hook noses, C. J. Cregg as a Jew. I could see the artistic value of it, there were plenty of fantastic shots and great art direction, but it wasn't very good or enjoyable IMO. Also, the Talking Heads song made no appearance, so that just ruined it for me. C+Toy Story 3Wow. This was much more of a dramatic piece than anything, and it worked oh so well. Who knew you'd feel so much for plastic and fiber? On the ending: I was half thinking that it would end at the dump; I would've been completely fine with it ending there. The villain wins, everybody dies, no chance for another sequel. However, I was completely pleased and NOT AT ALL TEARY with the actual ending. It wasn't as super fantastic as I had been hearing it was, but it was still fantastic. I don't put it past WALL-E, but it's definitely the best of the Toy Stories. ADespicable MeThis one, however, exceeded all of my expectations. It was no tour de force like Toy Story 3, but it definitely had a heart and some aw moments. The benefit of not being so dramatic like TS3 is that Despicable Me was actually more laugh-out-loud funny for me. I went to this with a group of college friends and well all were laughing, probably more than the kids in the audience were. B+

You, sir, have no heart. And onto this... Toy Story 3Oh. Various. Gods. This just exceeded all my expectations. It wasn't laugh out loud funny all of the time, it had some notable moments though, Spanish Buzz being one of the best. Some of the looks he gives Jesse just made me giggle like a loon. But otherwise it was heartwarming, and like everything else I've come to expect of the toy story movies. I'd have liked to have seen a few of the other characters that we knew and loved, but you can't have it all. And yes, I cried like a baby at the end of it. A+

AHHHHHHHHHH IT'S AN ENDLESS LOOP KILL IT
I didn't say people only cry at sad things. I was implying that MOST people tend to cry only at sad things. I completely understand why a lot of people cried at the end of Toy Story 3. But I also understand why many people didn't, and that's because unlike when something is sad, most people are more able to keep their tears in check when seeing something extremely happy or beautifully touching, while still being just as moved.
If the end of Toy Story 3 was extremely sad, I would understand the "you have no heart" response to Weiner saying he was moved by the ending but not moved to tears. Most people are usually only moved to tears by sadness. It doesn't mean they have any less of a heart than someone who has a tendency to cry at joyous and touching things.
Of course all of this is pointless, because obviously Nutmeg is simply teasing.
Also, that part where I said they could've ended the film, that would've been sad and would've moved anybody to tears. The ending was touching, but it didn't touch me just right.

Fantastic Mr. Fox - 9.5/10 Great stop-motion animation, typical Wes Anderson greatness!
The Men Who Stare at Goats - 8.5/10 Hilarious movie. Clooney, McGregor and Bridges are all just fantastic in it, especially Bridges.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - 7/10 Much better than I thought it would be, but still not a must-watch movie.
The Darjeeling Limited - 9/10 Another of Wes Anderson's masterpieces. Great storyline.
The Shawshank Redemption - 9.5/10 One of the best Prison-Break movies I have seen.
I Love You Phillip Morris - 8/10 Very funny story with great performances by Carrey and McGregor. Even better considering that most of it really happened.
Where The Wild Things Are9.75/10 Definitely one of the best movies I have seen in a while. It's different from the norm of movies, but in a good way!

Toy Story 3
Oh my god I love this movie. It had me laughing and had me almost crying during the end. I do love the Spanish Buzz and the romance between him and Jessie is so sweet. I love Big Baby too.
For some reason I want a ken doll. I would go and see it again if I have the chance.

I didn't quite understand how he and Saito got back though. Does shooting yourself in limbo bring you back? That would sort of make the whole limbo thing a bit less frightening. Then again, I don't remember them shooting each other.
The only way to get out of limbo is to be have the idea in your mind that you're world is not reality, which is hard because you're so deep into the dream in limbo that you start to believe the dream is real because you are constructing the dream out of your own memories. Dom is special and already has the idea that his world isn't reality, so he plants it in Saito's mind by showing him the totem, and letting him spin it. When it keeps spinning indefinitely, Saito is able to realize that he's not in the real world. Then they are both able to kill themselves and exit the dream.
Also, being in limbo to the point where he was an old man, meant Saito had been asleep long enough for the sedative to wear off, therefore once Leo was able to convince him he was in limbo, it made sense that they could kill themselves by this point in time without..dying...
Heh. All these spoilers. BOOBIES!
I thought it was different. I figured since leo said "take a leap of faith" they did an off camera jump that gave them the jolt, ala Ellen Paige and Scarecrow. Also I was a little bugged by the ending I totally understand they were going for the "ohh is it real or is it dreamland" thing by not showing the totem fall - BUT throughout the whole movie is OBVIOUS that the reality where the crew is together is real. Why? Because in EVERY SINGLE dream sequence Mal would show up and fuck with Leo. She never was there in the reality with the crew. So its already known that its real, so why do the thing at the end.
I kinda remember there being one part where Leo kinda saw a shadow of something Malish - but seeing the movie only once, I can't quite place it and it easily could have been a dream - or maybe I just dreamed that part. Great movie. Joseph Gordon-Levitt can be in my dreams anytime he wants.

It was a remake/re-imagining, saw it in the cinema a few years ago, bit of a mindfuck if you didn't know what it was about going in. Some good scenes though, and Penelope Cruz's boobies.
