Josh thinks he is cool cuz hes a music major and is like "lol autotune."

Nobody gives a shit josh.  If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Also, pretty sure they only did one Queen song.  And it was really good.

Hmm I guess Rachel was just who I happened to be watching when that part came on. And yes Slackit you are right about HS performances, I guess I am jealous in knowing that my high school will never ever ever put on Rocky Horror (but with good reason, the plot makes no damn sense). Still when Brad and Janet sing along in 'Time Warp' that is gonna bug the crap out of fans of RHS. And any alteration that Glee will do is gonna make the fans hate it even more. Like the double Magentas and Columbias and when Tina sang her part of Columbia's solo out of sync.

Spacedal, I think its silly for RHS fans to be mad and hate Glee because they are doing it in their own way.  But it isn't supposed to be exactly the same.  Being pissed off that things don't follow the originals word for word is the fans fault, not those re-doing it.

I see this same problem for the show True Blood.  There are fans of the books out there that HATE the show because it isn't following the books exactly as they are written.  But the show isn't written by the author of the book, and changes have been made that actually make the show better.

Glee is paying tribute to RHS, not re-living it.  No matter what they do, fans of RHS will be pissed because its not exactly the same.  The truth is though, not only can't it be - but it shouldn't be.  I would be MORE upset if Glee tried to make everything exactly the same.  They sing the songs to give "props" to the original, but don't want to be considered equal at all because they respect/like the original too much.  The show will actually take less criticism for being "off track" then it would if they tried to be exactly the same.

You can't compare apples to oranges.

You have to be a music major to go "lol autotune"? I know more people than I can count who agree that autotune is one of the worst things to happen to the music industry in a loooong time.

I would probably give this show a chance if it used real singers not using autotune. Then it would actually be a legitimate show of talent worth watching.

I don't think it's cool to hate Glee, I just hate it.

Ditto. I just hate it because:

1. The Autotune
2. The terrible excuse for humor on this show
3. The choice of music
4. When the choice of music is good, they make it far worse than the original. I'm not expecting it to be as good as the original, but I would prefer it to be better... to where I can actually listen to it.

Autotune for good!

Heaaaaaaaartbeeeeeaaaaaaat

EDIT: Bleh, there was an interview i was hoping to link to as well, but i can't find it. It was Nick Thorburn (The main dude from that band) talking about how they got to the point of using Auto-tune in that song, saying that they'd recorded it all kept listening back and thinking it sounded really boring and needed to add something to it, and used auto-tune as a bit of a joke, but they said it ended up working.

Totally agree with this one.  It's another way producers can make money by lying to the public via false singing acts; it's Milli Vanilli on steroids...

Um.  They aren't false singing acts though.  Really, could autotune take someone who can't sing and make them awesome?

Lea Michele has been in Broadway productions since 1995.
Kevin McHale was in a boyband before Glee.
Jenna Ushkowitz started on Broadway in 1996.
Mark Salling sings, writes, and produces his own music, and plays the piano, guitar, bass guitar, and drums.  He also released a solo album back in 2008 (before Glee)
Matthew Morrison is a Tony Award winning performer.

These people obviously have proven themselves as performers before Glee and without autotune.  Just because the show uses it doesn't mean they aren't capable of great performances on their own.  I doubt they brought autotune along on the tour.

What autotune can do is take someone who sings off key & puts them on key.  For example, britney spears has trouble singing on key (her off tune concert raw feed videos on youtube are cringingly hard to listen to), yet her records have her dead on key all the time, thanks to autotune.   The producers sold the public a false image.  It's basically Milli Vanilli all over again.

Look at the top of the Billboard charts. Look at all those artists. The answer to your question is OF COURSE IT CAN, that's the case with almost every single rapper that uses autotune and numerous pop artists who can't sing in key.

Then why do it with autotune? I don't care if a singer CAN sing well without autotune, if they're not singing without autotune, then what's the point of hearing them sing at all? When you listen to someone sing, you want to hear them do it themselves and with their natural talent, you don't want to hear them doing a half-ass job and letting autotune do the rest. What is the point?

Then good for the tour. I'm not talking about the tour, I'm talking about the show, and why I don't watch or enjoy it.

Josh - I guess my point is, why do you care?

If this show wasn't as popular as it is, would you be commenting?  Would you even know?

Why aren't you posting on forums/pop stars websites about the horrible use of autotune?

People who watch the show don't care what the show is using.  It doesn't make a difference if they used autotune when these people sing because its about the storyline - NOT HOW WELL THEY SING.

Err...not true. Most of the people I know who love the show love it for the most part due to it's musical focus, and constantly praise the vocal performances. That's what bugs me. If you like the show because it's well written and entertaining but are willing to admit that autotune is not the greatest way to display natural talent, then I have no personal issue with you liking the show. Not that having an issue with you liking the show should stop you from watching it, but just saying that my personal opinion in that case is that you have legitimate reason to enjoy it. Most people I know who adore this show though think the vocal performances are just "OMGOMGTHEBEST" and that annoys me to no end.

So I take it no one has watched the Rocky Horror episode even though that's what a lot of this discussion was?

I did, and I found it funny since 75% of the show was just storyline and 25% was focused on RHS. The opening was promising and then it went downhill. Even though I never really enjoy the music the kids sing (as in it only makes me want to listen to the actual song), I seriously wanted to watch their version of the entire RH show or at least a bigger chunk. I mean Kurt was so wasted, and he made a great Riff Raff. Mercedes made a cool Frankenfurter, even though I didn't like her version of Sweet Transvestite she has a great voice.

I'd give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Totally agree about Kurt.  He should just.... have his own damn show.
I knew they wouldn't really show the RHS, and I always think its lame when the teachers try to get in on the performances.

I think it would make a really great DVD extra though.

It's because she went to a performing arts school, and wants the same fame she has in 1 dicipline in another.  Musicians want to be actors, actors want to be singers & musicians, some dancers want to be actors, etc.

Why is this thread is dead? I want to bring it back to life again.

I am a big Gleek and this year is going to be brilliant because I am going to see the Glee casts on tour when they are coming to the uk in June and in July I am going to Birmingham for 3 days at a hotel where they are doing a Glee convention and some of the casts will be there. I am so very excited. Oh I follow the casts on Twitter.

The show is getting really good and I really love what’s going on.

Relationships update: Artie and Brittany, Kurt and Blaine, Finn and Quinn, Puke and Lauren, Emma was with Carl but he left her, Will had a bit of a relationship with Holly Holiday but that didn’t last long. Santana is a closet lesbian.

I really have a huge crush on Kevin Mchale

I love this from the last episode when they were singing Gaga Born this way

Oh you got to love this pic:

Holy shit.  That movie came out 11 years ago?  Time goes by really fast.

I've missed like the past... lot of episodes.  Last one I saw full was Finn being totally out of character and wanting Quinn again.  But I did see half of the Born this Way episode.  Seriously with Mercedes?  No Weave?  At least Lauren's is.... kinda okay.  They both should have said "fat."  Especially if you are naming things you WEREN'T born with.  Like a weave.

And tnuk, though you try to insult people who like Glee by calling them Gleetards, you really are just supporting the fans, because they thrive off of being different.

I've been catching up.  I know this isn't a "children's" show, but I'm annoyed by the alcohol episode.  I get that they are talking about teens gonna do it anyways etc, but they could have had a LITTLE more consequences or something.

Telling the kids to stop drinking till after nationals, and then basically letting them know they can get blasted afterwards is dumb.  I don't like that when Quinn called Shu a kettle he was like "youre right."  Shes not.  He is an adult, shes not.  Though its retarded for him to get drunk on a school night, its not against the law.  Fucking kids are so dumb.  Ugh.
