Heh....well, regardless of the fact that we're not in "Bartmania" anymore, the show itself is still quite popular and is the second highest rated show on Fox (behind American Idol).  I don't think its really past its prime in popularity at all, or at least not to the extent that its remotely in trouble.  What I really meant was that I don't see Family Guy sustaining popularity for all that much longer, and the only reason it would continue past maybe three years is Fox has a tendancy to drag out shows even when they're genuinely rating very poorly (Married with Children, X-Files, Malcolm in the Middle, etc.).  Whether this will eventually happen with The Simpsons, I dunno.

And I agree with you on "Simpsons Safari", except that I don't even think the opening was any good.

The Simpsons is the second most popular show on FOX right now? Even more popular than 24?

The last time I checked anyway, yeah.  I don't know exactly what 24's ratings have been like just recently though.

Although The Simpsons' ratings go down towards the end of the season like now, they usually get about 10 million on average in the first half or so. Family Guy tends to get 8-9 million on average. Still decent ratings, but I think FG's current success is more chalked up to the sales of merchandise, namely the DVDs (which is crazy, due to the show's nonexistant rewatch value).

Despite how many people like to rag on new seasons of The Simpsons, it's still remarkably popular with both fans and casual fans alike. I would guess that it's still probably the biggest merchandise property FOX has (yes, even more than Family Guy). I would imagine that trend would continue, given some drastic horrible decline in the show's animation quality.
