I assume the title was just because Hurley was writing The Empire Strikes Back which opens in the planet Hoth.

Yeah...plus the producers called this a "fun" episode in between 2 very serious ones. So I think they just wanted to name an episode that.

Ha, I knew Hurley was writing ESB as soon as he said "bounty hunter".
"The Ewoks sucked dude."

And at the start I was like, is that Dr. Changs wife? Nah!
But then when she was in the bed I knew it was, can't fool me long Lost writers!

That episode would've been a lot better if we hadn't all worked out Dr. Chang was Miles' father about 10 episodes back. Though, at least now we know why Miles wanted that 3.2 million. I'm enjoying the new flashback format - no more "entire episode about Jack's ex wife" shit that means nothing, it's all relevant to the show now. And DAN'S BACK! Yay!!! :D

Someone refresh my memory... where did we leave Dan before this, in the flashes? Pretty much when they were working for the DHARMA right? And then... Sawyer told Jack he wasn't on the island anymore - which was really cryptic. What the hell, Faraday? Give me answers!

Also, what the hell is up with Naomi's terrible hair?

I do like "the numbers" coming back after all this time... maybe we'll know more about them now that we know they're a serial code?

I want to know how these other people know "what lies in the shadow of the statue"... it's like these people have been on the Island before, and are more deserving, or understanding, to be there? Anybody have any insight in that?
Oh snap. So in addition to that, did you know Bram (the guy in the van that kidnapped Miles) was on the Ajira flight?? That might help fill in some blanks? I definitely think he and Ilana are oooold inhabitants of the Island.. like wayyyy back in the day sorts of people. They know alot more than we know, since they use the "shadow of the statue" line to find out about you. Which means they knew about the Ajira flight to get back to the Island too... yay mindfuck!

We last left Dan in episode 8, he was with Sawyer, Juliet and Miles when they were first captured by the Dharma guys in 1973-ish, but not in the "3 years later" parts when they were working for the Dharma Initiative.

Okay this gets confusing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at Ben's chemical attack on Dharmatown, Ben closed his father's eyes, but his father's Roger Workman, whom was found in a van with all the Dharma beer?

Hmmm... I guess Sawyer, Jack, Kate and Juliet have some cover-up killing to...Make it look like an accident.

Sure, if you want to be realistic about it

I wonder if Dan will try to warn young Charlotte, knowing that she ends up forgetting he tells her never to come back..

I saw an earlier episode on cable tv the other night and realised that I didn't know what the point in some of the other others was. Like that lady who was talking to Walt when they kidnapped him. And did they ever explain why they were afraid of Walt? Is he like, the anti-Jacob?
Sigh. Ready for the next episode please.

Tonight on Lost:

Questions that have alreay been canonically answered such as "What happened to the Oceanic 6 and the rest of the island survivors in the three years after Ben moved the island?", "How may Locke leaving the island have helped stop the time rifts?", and "What led to Locke's death off the island?" will be explored by ABC as they hold out on their viewing audience once more in preparation for the May sweeps and the end of Season 5.

"Lost: The Story of the Oceanic 6" airs tonight at 9/8c only on ABC.

Uh...

No Lost this week as far as I can see, Bear. Are you guys getting a recap ep or something?

It's "The Variable" next week on 29th April. "On the 100th episode milestone for the series, the time of reckoning has begun when Daniel Faraday comes clean regarding what he knows about the island."

Dan! :D

Remember when people were talking about why Ben liked Juliet on the show?  They said she reminded him of "her."  We all kinda assumed the girl he wanted to do when he was a kid (who could have been Charlotte)

Anyways, do you think Juliet reminded him of... Juliet - when she tried and initially saved his life?

Ready for The Variable later now.

Well..we allready knew many things revealed here.. (or supossed) but what stroke me was the change of "now you really can change "future" " thing.. Daniel was total solid in the "future cant be changed" and now he went directly on the other side on the strike

It was great story structure... how Dan thought he was a Variable but he was really a Constant his whole entire life. His mother had been directing him the whole time to go to the island to that point so that she could shoot him. Remember, she's the "enforcer" of the time line... remember her meeting with Desmond in the ring shop? Poor Dan

It was weird though that Ellie didn't recognize Dan as the guy who claimed he was from the future and who told her to bury an atomic bomb and that it would be ok because the island was still there in 50 years. This was only 20 years later...I'd remember that guy! He looked exactly the same too
