So I was reading the paper yesterday, and apparantly popular for some, stupid for others show, summer heights high is premiering on american cable (exact channel name escapes me) on the 9th of november i think it was.

I really want to know how Americans respond to this show because I think it was a bit mixed in australia. I loved summer heights high and chris lilley is one hell of an actor writing and acting most of the show. He won an ARIA for most original song or album which was 'Naughty girl' from shh.

The american kath & kim was total shithouse, so I'm glad they didnt do a remake of shh.

It comes on HBO I believe... it's the aussie kids at the different schools right?  Like the private one and the public one or something or other, from what I could gather... what a bangar job the commercials did!

It's a little hard to understand your accent. :)

No it's one guy, Chris Lilley, playing three characters in this one school. Mr G, camp drama teacher. Jonah, year 8 tongan student. Ja'mie, year 12 bitchy private school girl who's on exchange at the public school.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought it was.  See... the bitchy private school girl was what made me think of the private and the public schools... Oh, and I totally noticed it was Australian because of the slang, but the commercials weren't clear about that.

Chris Lilley is somewhat of a cult figure here... he's only now become mainstream here where people are more aware of Summer Heights High now... he really is brilliant, and optimises so many facets of today's culture in Australian schools. It's so incredibly cringe-worthy but magically hilarious at the same time.

Not surprising, considering the source material! :)

This is a bad idea, but it could easily work. Schools are a pretty universal subject! They have those in foreign lands, right?

Exactly why I think even though the original australian series was made for australian high schoolers, Summer heights heigh could work in any country.

Speaking of Summer Heights High

Quote from: Wikipedia
Margaret Murray (Elida Brereton) – The principal of Summer Heights High. She is often referenced in all three stories but plays the biggest part in Mr G's story... Elida Brereton actually was a principal at Camberwell High School, until the end of 2009.
