Vampires exist and they have come out of hiding since a Japanese company has developed a new synthetic type of blood.

The show takes place in a Louisiana town which gets it's first vampire visitor into town... apparently there are humans that act as hookers to vampires now too.  The main character is female (human) and she can read people's thoughts with her mind.

It premiered tonight on HBO... I'm watching it right now, looks right interesting. :D

I had high hopes since it was Alan Ball (I <3 Six Feet Under) But i watched the trailer, and apart from Stephen Moyer having a yank accent, i still thought it looked kinda lame...

First impression, it shows a good amount of promise to be both interesting and entertaining.

Pretty good episode tonight.  They're really starting to set up the characters, and they started going a little in-depth with all the characteristics of a vampire.  Plus, a little more development in the political nature of vampires coming out of the closet... so to speak.  Not super actiony, but the scenes for next week looked downright intense.

I thought last nights episode was great.  Something about this show really draws me in.  Bill - wow, usually people are so used to vamps being weird, even in normal form (Spike from Buffy) - but he just looks so normal, and so from the past, its awesome.

Chay - I suggest watching the show.

Winna - next weeks looks awesome and scary!

Vampires can be emotional sissy boys though. In fact, I can think of three emotional sissy boy vampires not from Twilight. Most notably Spike from Buffy, who becomes a whiny bitch-boy, and the brilliantly neurotic Count Duckula. Then you've got the vampire from True Blood whom Amy and Jason kidnap. He's pretty lame. Very sissy. Quite emotional.

I would say that vampires can run the whole emotional gamut. You've got the dark, brooding Marlon Brando vampires, the tall and spooky Christopher Lee vampires, and the whiny Rob Pattinson doucheboys.

First half seemed to resolve the maryanne thing waaaaaay too quickly after it'd dragged on so long, and the second half was really strangely paced, but obviously setting up the third season.

I got part way through season 2 when the .avi's I was given needed some codec that I can't find.

I think with twilight everyone is jumping onto vampire band wagon, apparently Trueblood is based on a book.

It is.  Ignore the rest of season 2, you'll be severely disappointed.

The first season is rather reminiscent of shows like... umm Twin Peaks.

True Blood came before Twilight - not to mention it's NOTHING like twilight.

Both the show and the books the show is based on (The Sookie Stackhouse, The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlene Harris) came out before Twilight.  The show, only a few months before the first movie, but the books were written in 2001.

Ye what?

TB Season 1 was uncomfortably close to Twilight with the eventually rather tedious Sookie/Bill romance.

TB S2 was a lot better because it could show us more of the other, more interesting characters like Sam, Jessica, and Eric.

The biggest drawback was only seeing Godric for one episode.

Entirely fictional beings are like that, they're whatever the hell the writer wants them to be.  Hell, in fiction, politicians can be honest, for christ's sake.

Hmm. Vampire politician with a conscience. How's about that for a show premise. Or maybe vampire president?

I luuuuuuuuurve True Blood! Its like my favourite show!!
Cant wait for the new series in the middle of June *squeals*

I dont wanna read the books because the series is so good and I'd end up spoiling it for myself. Well, that and the fact that people who read the books first say that the series is crap, and the people who've seen the series first say the books are crap. So I'm happy just playing the waiting game

Yah, I feel the same way about the books.  Lots of the book fans are pissed that the show isnt following the books.  Well that works out for me!  I don't want Lafayette to be dead!

I just got the second season in the mail for my birthday.  Wooooo

Yaaays! I haven't got the 2nd series yet. I've got the first on Blu-Ray.

I'm glad the series doesn't follow the books too because Godric is a lovely character. But in the books, he's a paedophile!! I mean, whats that about!? Plus, like you said, Lafayette is still alive in the series. He's a fab character! So is Sophie-Ann :)

OMG GM, Godric.  Cried my freaking eyes out when he went.  He was only in like 3 episodes and I was devastated!  I will say though that I can't stand Tara.  I hope she will be less annoying this season.

Great show, but I have to say I like the books alot more.  There are quite a few differences  and the Director already said he is going to deviate even more from the books, but I do recommend staying away from them until a few more seasons have gone by or you will hate one or two of the main characters.  I am leaving this thread now before I try to ruin things for everyone. :)

There goes the vampire war!

This season started off promising (unlike last season), then they gayed up the Authority, then they did some other shit, and they plateau-hovered or something, then they decided to redo the first Blade Movie.  Also, for the record if someone drinks super vampire drug blood that makes even vampires trip balls, you should immediately leave the room.... doesn't matter if you think they'll OD or they'll become a super vampire, you should've left the room five minutes ago.

First season of this show was the best though.  Intriguing and a lot like Twin Peaks, but with vampires.  Also, I could swear this gay ass font was not the one they used to use.  Oh well, fuck it, at least they do neat stuff with the ending music.
