Considerably less hot than usual.
I wouldn't kick it out of bed.
As long as it's female, you wouldn't kick anything out of bed.

So, Stargate Universe Premiere tonight. Thoughts?
Overall, I thought it was pretty solid. A definite departure from the normal formula of SG1 and ATL, and the whole thing had a distinct Battlestar Galactica vibe to it (which could probably be attributed to the dark lighting, the jerky camera during action scenes and the drum-heavy music....) I found the fat computer nerd very annoying and pretty much a pointless characterm who's method of joining the expedition can only be described as a BIIIG stretch. Also, when did RDA get fat?
But yeah, I'll tune in next week.

Jack's living it up on his general's salary. Guinness by the truckload will do that.
Also, Shooter McGavin playing a semi-likable character is causing me no small amount of cognitive dissonance.

I'm still feeling pretty neutral about this show. It's had a couple of good moments, but it just doesn't feel like stargate. The episodes have been decent- but not great- and the whole 'doom and gloom' thing is rapidly getting tired. Not to mention the drama of the last episode was completely ruined by the fact that it was obvious from the very beginning that Destiny was going to use the star to recharge itself, and that it wasn't on some kind of pointless suicide run. Maybe the show will get better once they've run out of ways that the ship can kill them. All I know is my gut says maybe. edit: whoops. Sorry everyone that hasn't seen it. Not that you shouldn't expect stargate spoilers in a stargate thread.

Thanks Soylent, maybe a spoiler tag next time? We're obviously a few eps behind here in the UK.
The episode you describe airs in the UK on Tuesday 27th October.
Please think of those less fortunate souls.
I agree with all you said, btw, I miss the humour of SG1 and Atlantis.

Thanks Soylant I had more or less guessed that was going to happen at the end of "Darkness". Nixorbo, I'd hope not to spoil anything for anyone. I accept it's a chance you take, visiting a Stargate thread, but elsewhere things are marked. Agree about the lack of a Jack/McKay, I wasn't expecting another SG1/Atalantis clone but SGU is quite a leap in style. The one thing I do like is the ancient ship, I love the nod towards the "Millennium Falcon"

"Light" Things are looking up, that was a good one. A few things... Although it would have been better if they'd gone ahead and killed all those on the shuttle, and did Rush know what was going to happen with the ship?

So far.. Greer - "amma hit chew wit ma stereotype, foo" All this character needs is a speech about how much he liked fried chicken back home and it'll be perfect. Chloe - "that whiny emo girl" Eli - Interesting character idea.. the show's primary audience will be chubby male dorks in their 20's so it makes sense to throw one in there. Poor dude is going to be consigned to years of cuddles and whining from Chloe while remaining the only person on the ship she hasn't slept with (girls included, probably). Rush - I like. His tendency to be extremely violent at the slightest provocation is very Scottish. God Boy - forgot his name. Had enough god after slogging through BSG, really, really hated the bit where his dad appeared in a vision and said "God has a plan for us"... wanted to throw something at the TV. Young - Growls a lot. Good character though, seems genuinely miserable about the fact that he's stuck with a bunch of retards.. no wonder he's so eager to commit suicide at any excuse. Random Lesbos - Oh look, a show with lesbians in it. That's something you don't see very often these days. I'm mainly continuing to watch this show on the grounds of "there's bugger all else on". Another season of Atlantis would have been way, way more entertaining. I don't like it when sci-fi takes itself too seriously unless it can offer me a significant amount of cool-looking spaceship battles to compensate. Wish they'd put some lights on, the show is physically not very easy to watch when it's mostly a dark-greyish blur. The production and film language is bad.. they can't pull off the BSG style and should stop jump-cutting once every 1.7 seconds.

Basil: Trust me, it was no spoiler. Really? Before looking at this thread I had several thoughts on what could happen in the next episode. After, I knew exactly what was going to happen.

I have very low standards and will watch any old junk.
Check out "Defying Gravity", my god it's shit!
Back on topic, what's happened to Peter DeLuise, I always enjoyed his episodes but there's none of his trademark humour in the episodes he's directed so far.

DG was a decent attempt to raise the profile of space science. Only at episode 3 in the UK, but already we've had an attempted suicide after being scrubbed from the mission, and a 300ft safety tether but I guess they can explain all this away with the mysyerious entity in cargo pod 4. Science, pah! Give me "The Right Stuff", "Apollo 13" or "From the Earth to the Moon" any time.

Yeah, that was a decent enough episode, brilliant last scene with everett doing a booty call on young's girlfriend.
Emo girl cried again, she seems to do that a lot.
