This in many ways is such a pertinent movie, I fealt a thread ought to be dedicated to its discussion.

I didnt get it the first time, perhaps misinformed by the first two batman movies which although entertaining, lacked the depth this one portrayed.

My first impression of this movie was one of ignorant self serving vengeance. You could understand that misconception up until about 25 minutes into the movie were he challenges the 'guru master'

In many ways this is analogous to star wars episode 4, The Empire Strikes back, in particular the swamp scenes with Yoda and Luke.

Anyway I seek comments on this movie.....

Best movie I've seen in ages, completely reignited my interest in the Dark Knight.

Nolan achieved God status alongside Groening and Lucas for me.

It was high-time the slate was wiped clean and old Batty was relaunched without all the silly over-the-top camp garbage that got accrued with the last bunch of films.
Taking things back to grass roots seems to be gaining in popularity. 007 did it with Casino Royale, and it looks like Star Trek's about to do it by recasting the Original Series characters.
I say go for it. You can't beat the classics.

I've seen this movie once and my recollection if it isn't great... or kind.  It's not a movie I thought I would ever want to watch again; not necessarily because I thought it was horrible, but because I thought it was overhyped and didn't meet my expectations.  It was "ok": nothing bad, but nothing brilliant.

Whispers of the Dark Knight plot have reignited my interest in this series, though, and I'm now more willing to give BB a second change.  Perhaps I just went into it the first time under the wrong mindset (that's highly probable, actually: with my only exposure to the superhero being Batman: tAS and the craptacular 1990s movies, I'm rather ignorant about his comic book origins).
