Hey whatever happened to the Halo movie with Vin Diesel?

I haven't heard anything from him since Paris Hilton's phone got hacked and Vin Diesel's phone number was in her address book and I called it and there was some weird voice mail greeting on there being like "Yeah this is Vin Diesel, if you're looking for me to do a job leave a message, I'm really looking hard for some work right now so please leave me a message and yaddah yaddah yaddah..." and then I hung up on him after the beep  but then I got to wondering "well what the heck Vin Diesel, what about that Halo movie? Weren't you supposed to be Master Chief? I guess you would have fit the part alright but I probably would have been pretty upset with you for ruining it for me because you undoubtedly would have given a sub-par performance. So I guess it's good Paris Hilton's phone got hacked and you got swamped with voicemails and missed the one that said they wanted you to be Master Chief. Oh well, tough turkey." But anyway, whatever happened to that movie?

The initial screenplay was written by Alex Garland, which is fantastic, but it looks like they've dropped that, unfortunately.

Thank you. Please Hollywood don't make this suck. I try and disconnect myself from the mediums when they make a movie from a great book and take each one individually. That said, I'm not sure if I'd want to see Survivor made. Haunted is good, but I'd like to see different directors tackle each of the little "story within a story"'s in Haunted. Palahniuk books really need a high profile director to give them justice. Choke looks pretty meh to me. I wonder if they would make Guts...(not to mention half the other scenes) You can almost hear the censorship activists already.
