Hmm. I think I'll get the book out. Mini-rant: what really sucks is having only 2 and 1/2 screens at St. Andys. OK, so they have like 5 films on, but only 1 or 2 of which I'd want to see, and even then, they put them on at such obscure times rrr Rant over.

Originally posted by Melllvar: That's funny, because I thought it was pretty ropey. Ellen Page was an irritating little spud, and I found myself wanting her to get her come-uppance. Sometimes I feel that Kermode gets it right, and in this instance I thought he got it wrong. I suspect this is a film people will either love or hate depending on what they think of Ellen Page's character. Originally posted by MrBlonde:You think it's bad to have 5 flicks playing? I have only two screens in my town and they're always playing the exact same things as each other, a children's movie and some shitty PG-13 horror movie. You think its bad having two screens? I live in a village so have none

Preview screening (okay, so my friend won the tickets, but given that I'm essentially the Stephen Hawking of Arrested Development and Michael Cera and Jason Bateman are in it, it was pretty much an unspoken take-me-or-die situation).

Yeah, everyone knows Australia owns space. Speaking of movies, i saw: Shoot 'Em Up Oh Clive! Whilst some movies have ridiculous action and try and make it believable, this movies says "Fuck you! This action is so ridiculous and unbelievable, but you are going to enjoy it! Cause it's awesome! Now watch this guy being killed by a carrot!" A+

A couple of movies I saw recently: Black BookPaul Verhoeven (Robocop, Total Recall, Showgirls, Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers) directed this World War II drama. So before you start, you know it's going to be about as subtle as a baseball bat. However, I have to say that aside from his usual broad strokes of violence, sex and nudity, there's also a sensitive side to Verhoeven - all of which are evidenced in this flick. The story is of Rachel Stein, a Belgian jew, in hiding in WWII, and trying to escape the Nazis - however, while trying to escape her and her family are ambushed by the Nazis and her family are viciously slaughtered. She survives. Making her escape to infiltrate (by way of hooking up with a resistance movement) a branch of the Nazi special division in The Hague, and shack-up with a Nazi General. There are numerous twists, crosses and double-crosses which befall our heroine (as well as having a vat of human excrement dumped all over her), and the ending is something which is relatively satisfying considering the 2 hour ride we're taken on. This movie is in Dutch, German and has bits of English, so it's fair to say that it's subtitled. I'm not sure "enjoyed" is a word I would use to describe how I felt about this movie, but it certainly was compelling stuff, and the performances, especially from the lead, Carice Van Houten, are fantastic. 9/10 Perfume: The Story Of A MurdererAnother period piece. This is the story of a boy born in 18th Century France, who has the most incredible gift of the most acute sense of smell, while yet producing no odour of his own. He lives to become a Perfumer and develop the finest scents, however, his work takes a dark turn when he tries to preserve the scents of women, only he finds the only way he can achieve this is to murder them. I found this movie interesting and compelling. The lead performances by Ben Whishaw (only known to me as "Pingu" in Nathan Barley), Alan Rickman and Dustin Hoffman are excellent. However, the ending was pretty unexpected, and for me, unsatisfying. After standing trial for the murders, our protagonist, having developed his perfect "dead women" scent, releases it on the crowd baying for his blood, only to have them decent into a vast bacchanalian orgy.... 8/10

Originally posted by BirthdayClown: Juno I couldn't stand Ellen Page at first, but she grew on me. After Hard Candy and the beginning of this film, I was ready to name her "least likable person ever." But she's okay. B+ Funny, I have the same reservations about the "Hard Candy" factor in Ellen Page's career. She was that irritating in that movie, that it'll cast a shadow over other stuff she does... for me. However, the Arrested Development contingent in this movie makes me wanna see it though.

Let it be known as AD cast-itis! (I'm looking at you Stranger Than Fiction, "They're trying to put Baby Buster in a Will Ferrell movie!" ) (Speaking of Tony Hale, he's in a movie called Ctrl Z, about a IT guy who undoes his lifes mistakes presumably with a magic keyboard, 7.7/10 on imdb!)

my complaints about I am Legend They abondoned what i thought was the coolest part of it, by adding other characters. Although i spose the story wouldn't have been as interesting without them.
Also, making an alpha male of the vampires things was stupid, He'd just said they had lost all form of humanity and intellegence, yet here they were following orders with a heirachy! boolshiiit!
That aside i did enjoy it. Want to see Juno, even though you are all saying Ellen Page shits you, i dunno what it is, but i'm intrigued by her.
