Yeah, well, they aren't dead, so why would that clash with the theory that the island is some sort purgatory?

Hm? I'm not quite sure I understand if you're actually asking that question or joking or what...please clear that up, if you don't mind? At least to help out my primitive brain.   :D

Also, I think that you misunderstood something regarding Sun. She didn't mean that she is already dead, but that she's doomed to die because she conceived her child on the island.

I didn't misunderstand...I knew she wasn't being literal, and that she menat exactly what you just explained. My point was that the statement was one of the three that I mentioned which referenced the IDEA of being already dead, and helped create a sort of theme in the episode.

Quote
And maybe nobody (except for the Others) knows that this Island (or rather the isles) exist...

This has definitely already been established on the show, but a lot of people forget. It's in the season 2 finale, when Ben tells Michael the only way to leave the island is by following an exact compass direction, and the once he leaves he will never be able to return. It seems to imply that the island is perhaps a supernaturally obscured location. Sorta like those Bermuda Triangle theories of ships disappearing to another realm or something (not that I believe any of that, just giving an example).

Quote
How should she? The 2nd season finale indicated that Penny was still searching for Desmond, who apparently vanished while sailing around the world. When the sky turned purple, the people working her (apparently) saw and the Naomi was sent there to check it out.

SEEMS simple enough, although the execs have said it's not. They said they'll be showing that scene (at the end of the season 2 finale) again in a different way. Apparently, whatever you thought was going on there the first time is only half of what's really going on, after they show a different aspect to it.
But they also said the end of this latest episode would change the entire view of the show (and I already talked about my problems with that whole thing), so they might just be full of themselves.

Somebody stole words from sentence! Seriously.   :p

What I wanted to say was:
"They aren't dead, so why would that clash with the fact that they debunked the theory that the island is some sort of purgatory."

...and helped create a sort of theme in the episode.
except that dieing was IMHO not a theme in this episode.   ;)

The big revelation:

Also, for the record: I don't listen to the Lost podcats. Nor do I give much about the creators' annoucements about what is about to come.
All I say is: "2nd season finale is going to be the best season finale ever!" Yeah, right.

Because I'm uneasy as to why the creators would make a big fuss about it if it's something they clearly debunked, pretending that we're supposed to be surprised. Whatever.

Interesting. Except for the fact that I didn't say the theme was dying. I implied that the theme seemed to be the concept of being "already dead". Much different, actually. But okay.

Again, None of them are dead, all the revelation is, is that the outside world BELIEVES them to be dead. A big cover-up has taken place.

Amen, Chay.

Josh, while I would not dispute that being dead and becoming dead is not the same thing, I do say that we still spoke about the same thing.  ;)

Besides, nothing what the creators of any show is written in stone. I do remember that the creator of the X-Files, Chris Carter, said that Mulder & Scully would never ever start a relationship....and now look how the show ended.   :p

Oh yeah, this episode also gave plenty of fuel for the "OMG they lied to us, they are all dead!!!1!" camp.
Or not?  :p

Gocad, Im not sure what the episode did.

I feel like, if they are putting all this "We are dead" crap into the show, because it is hell or purgatory or whatever, thats lame and boring.

If they are putting it in because they said they arent dead, but want us to think that, so when we find out they arent dead we are surprised...well, its obvious.

Bleh

On a side note, Locke still rocks my world, and Jack is 100000000000000000% better since he dumped kate and went to Juliet

Dammit Kate, I hope Sayid beats your ass for giving away the secret, and to Juliette aswell! What's the hell's wrong with you?

Bit of closure there for John and James (I assume he'll go by that name now), an Ben was a real asshole.
Although at the end of the episode I was totally expecting

I don't trust Jack now either, what the heck did "We should tell her" mean?
That didn't look like the Black Rock I remember... wasn't it blacker?

One, I was joking.
Two, I think they do this to point out that nobody in the outside world plans to rescue them. Keep in mind, all this talk is mostly generated by characters that were suddenly (more or less) brought to the island.

Wasn't there some talk that Lost would move away from the island perspective in this season.

awesome episode!

I wreckon that juliet is actually good, her and jack are planning something good, but they've been holding out on telling everyone because juliet would get raped if they found out she was actually being deceitful. and so NOW, when james ford gets back and say "OMG Traitor!" she will get raped reguardless. and it will fuck everything up.

So in summary
Jack and Juliet = Good
Jack and Juliet =\= bad
Locke = person who has once again fucked things up.

Great episode.

Chay, I agree with you about Jack and Juliet.

But Locke, COME ON.  Hes following the way of the island.  Besides, he is was more interesting than anyone on the beach, except for Desmond.

No, i think he's awesome, especially after this ep. I just mean, cause he's only heard things from ben's side (Juliet is bad) so he was just trying to help them, but alas, it's going to make things worse.

Well, I think that Juliet is similar to Michael, she may not a bad person, but she's quite willing (perhaps even more than Michael) to go over bodies to get what she wants.

Since I do not think that the flashbacks give us wrong information about the character's past, it seems to me that Ben (once again) has offered her something. And that's why she is now hanging out with Jack.

They've confirmed an end date for Lost - 2010. There are going to be three more seasons of 16 episodes each. This should satisfy any of the people who complain about 'filler', as the producers are now able to plan out their final story moves with a definite end game. Though it'll suck immensely having to wait until January for new Lost (and not getting a full season), if it means tighter story arcs then i'm all for it.

To be honest, I had almost expected an annoucement that the next season of Lost would be the last one.

It seemed to me that the narrative speed of the series had increased in the recent episodes. This announcement makes me wonder if the series will now slow down a bit... (read: more meaningless flashback episodes)

Ditto!

I read somewhere a while ago it was going to be 5 seasons.

S1 - Intro to Island
S2 - The Hatch(s)
S3 - The Others
S4 - ???
S5 - Profit...i mean Closure.

But i guess 2x24 Vs 3x16 it might still be similar-ish to that still.

Not sure if i'm a fan of 16 ep seasons. Weird...

May be too late, but here's the press release.

I'm happy with the decision really. Even though we'll get essentially the same number of episodes that we would have done if there were two more seasons (48), they'll be able to sort everything out into three smaller arcs. It'll really suck having to wait so long for them, especially without The Lost Experience, but if it means they get more time to write and produce the series (with the same budget per season as before), then we'll be in for something special.

Hmm, IF it's true. I'm thinking, Charlie will finally kick the bucket. Sawyer cause he loves kate, or some lame shit. Ben will die, even though we love him to bits. Um Juliet, shortly after proving to everyone how good and nice she actually is. And then Jin for no reason.

Wow, that was awesome. So in summary:

I was right about Juliet = Good and that whole thing.

Also, Zmithy, har har about the dog.

Also, as if they "Jumped the shark". the show's just starting to get really interesting. And yeah, he's not dead...yet. Remember that ep of 24 where jack died for a little bit? Totally like that.

[/epic post]

EDIT: We saw two shots, a quick left to right pan of Jacob sitting in the chair, then a close up of angry eye.

Gah, whats a good screen grab tool that'll let me grab in front of the overlay?

True, but

Not dead yet isn't the same as not dead.
And it wouldn't be the first time they killed someone off although that character's story wasn't really told.

It would be interesting to know whether they addressed this on the epsiode's podcast.

Or maybe that eye makeup is part of some uber anti-wrinkling cream!   :p
Although we did see him off the island later, ruling out some cloning or twins or cyborg, it could have been FSM all this time... doubtful.
