These indy guys get over great in my area. Packed to the freakin' ceiling every month. Whether the guy's a face or a heel, nobody needs to resort to cheap pops. (except some of the "washed-up" legends they bring in,  i.e. Lex Luger, X-Pac, or Steve "Mongo" McMichales. Yes. Mongo.)

Luger can't wrestle after the stroke he had a few years ago.  Hell, he can't even control his bowels and bladder.  But he can still talk, and of course, he "found" Jesus.

X-Pac is the prime example of anti-heat.  The "heat" he gets is the, "You're stinking the joint up, go the fuck home!" kind of heat.

Mongo?  Shit, all he ever succeed at doing after leaving the Chicago Bears is sucking Eric Bischoff's cock so hard that Bischoff gave him a job as a "Thank you" gesture.

Mick Foley isn't above getting cheap pops.  Neither is Ric Flair.

For as old and beat up as he is, Terry Funk can probably still kick half the Indy guys asses.

Believe me, I wish that Matt would have gotten the push that his brother got when in the WWE.  Vince has a hard-on for muscle-bound freaks and guys who screw others to get over.  That's why Vince pushed the hell out of the likes of Hogan, HHH, Shawn Michaels and Edge.  Vince views people who get screwed over as being weak and those people never get pushed despite fan approval.

Both Matt and Jeff WERE great wrestlers who put their bodies on the line, upping the "Jesus Christ!" moments over the years.  It's a shame that "inner demons" (aka substance abuse) will probably make both die at an early age.

It's crazy 'cause I always thought of Matt as the one trying to keep Jeff in line and off of drugs. So disappointing...You're right about Triple H though, he has always employed ruthless backstage politics to get his way. Still a heckuva performer though.
BTW the Attitude Era has gotta be the greatest ever for tag teams: E and C, Hardys, Dudleys, Acolytes, Brothers of Destruction, New Age Outlaws, etc.

Barry's dad, Blackjack Mulligan stated on Nov. 1 that Barry is still in the ICU and has been near death.  There's concerns that Barry had a stroke, also.

When Barry was 15 and didn't have a driver's license, Ric Flair bought a Limo, got Barry a chauffeur's outfit and had Barry drive Flair around Charlotte.  One of Flair's female fans took Barry's virginity that day.  Ah, to be a friend of Flair's (this was back in the 70's when Flair and Mulligan were close friends and before their epic "Hat and Robe" feud.)

Flair may be a pathetic shell of his former self (old, broke, in debt and kicked out of his house for not paying the mortgage) but I still love the guy.

@ralph snart--know Mike Graham?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FxAE8dnAuE

this interview he talks about threatening Chris Benoit back in 2000 which led to Benoit going to WWE.  How valid is his threat to Benoit?  because I'm thinking, Benoit would rip him in half, but I'm told Graham is an old school tough guy and Benoit just played a tough guy on TV.

Honky Tonk mad is pissed, and weird that I saw this after I got his autograph at WonderCon back in Apr.

Holy fucking lol. Did he really just say that Benoit and Eddie leaving saved the company? The company that went under two years later?

He'll work fewer matches, but he'll be more driven to put himself in danger because TNA needs him more, plus he can still do indy dates, and he wants to do MMA and TNA simultaneously.  He's still putting himself in grave danger every time he in the ring, and doing fewer dates won't fix his problems - just alleviate them slightly, if he takes the right precautions.

If he just sticks to working TNA dates with a safe, bump-free style, he might be okay - but there's no reason to believe he'll do that given his past.

Reading this is really funny in hindsight, because you were 100% right and I was 100% wrong. Kurt Angle just wrestled two matches with a torn hamstring because he's fucking bonkers.

Yeah, I met Mike Graham back in '80-'81; he was a booker and worker in Florida.  He was small (compared to other wrestlers) but like Kevin Sullivan, he was tough as hell.  I never met Benoit but the word was that he was more than able to take care of himself in almost any situation.

HTM is fucking insane.  He's pretty well burned every bridge behind him.  Very few workers have much good to say about him.  He's not batshit insane like The Iron Shiek; Shieky-baby can make people laugh when he goes off on somebody, HTM just comes across as angry and bitter.

Kurt Angle is beyond batshit insane.  I would really like to see the results of a quantative drug test.  The only other person I would put in his league of insanity would be 1980's era "Handsome" Jimmy Valiant.  The dude would show up to TV tapings so gorked out of his mind he could give any of the Von Erich's a run for their money (gorked-out wise).  Jimmy wrestled with a freaking broken ankle and didn't realize it until he took his boots off and Johnny Weaver told him that his fibula was sticking out of the skin.

As for WCW. blame Hogan, Nash, Hall and Bishoff for the self-destruction of the company.  The "Vanilla Midgets" like Benoit and Eddie had a lot more workrate and love for the business than The NWO.  I have no idea what Mike Graham's beef with Benoit was.

thanks for that.  Well Graham says that Benoit slept with Kevin's wife and stole her away, and Kevin's his best friend.  Then Benoit tried to get both Kevin and Graham fired just because.

Well, the Nancy/Chris thing was a program that went real life.  It was said that Sullivan booked his own divorce.

Now, despite what Graham says, Sullivan wasn't a kind, wonderful husband.  It's been said that he's "rented-out" Nancy to the workers for a "fee" and that he use to beat her.  None other than Blackjack Mulligan stated that, and I tend to believe anything Mully says.  (Mully knocked my top front teeth out in a squash match in '79; Jim (Baron von) Raschke was the guy who took me to the hospital.  Mully felt so bad about stiffing me that he paid for my meals for over a month.  The big guy took a liking to me; he let me right in the car with him, Johnny Weaver and Don Kernodle and occasionally, Jay Youngblood.  We always rode in Johnny's '78 Ford LTD and we had to listen to 8 track tapes of the most horrible country music that Weaver listened to, while he was constantly loading his lip up with snuff and chewing tobacco.  Gross.)

Sullivan is a real-life Satanist and Nudist (my eyes, my eyes!)  Tully Blanchard once stated that part of him wondered if Sullivan and some of his Satan-worshipping friends killed the Benoits and staged it to look like Chris had snapped.

Watching the video, I can see why Graham feels the way he feels - I once lost a job because I was friends with a person managment hated.  As for the "Vanilla Midgets" not drawing a dime, in the WCW, they probably weren't, but at that time the whole company was losing money.  Come on, they fucked up with Bret Hart, the damned man a whole company could be built around if he was used correctly.

The only star WCW made was Goldberg, the man so green and stiff that he almost killed Bret Hart and caused Hart's retirement.

The world of wrestling and wrestlers is very closed and they police themselves.  I think that Newhook is/was a worker, so he can tell you about the way the workers handle things.  In the WWE, The Undertaker and Bradshaw were the "Enforcers" of the dressing room.  They were nortorious for taking orders from Vince to "rough up" or "fuck up" some guy in the ring.  Bradshaw tried to rough up Hardcore Holly once - you can guess how that went.  Holly is as batshit insane and stiff as Kurt Angle.  He actually beat the crap out of Bradshaw, The Wrestling God, in a house show.  Holly whispered in Bradshaw's ear after the ref did the double-DQ that Bradshaw better keep his fingers out of Holly's asshole in the shower.  Holly ended up becoming an Enforcer.

Matt Hardy is on his way to being the next Scott Hall, and not for his career.

I just find out John Morrison is leaving WWE next week.  That sucks, since he could've been the next Shawn Michaels and Jeff Hardy--minus the drug problem--but WWE screwed up by not pushing him.

He and Melina may end up in TNA, but Morrison will probably only be an X-division champ, and may not be a World champ.  He might've been a world champ in WWE.  I hardly watch TNA anymore.  It's mostly just ex WWE stars and guys with generic names that I can't remember.  I only know of about 5 TNA originals, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, AJ Styles, James Storm and Bobby Roode.

I'm banking on meth. I saw X-Pac earlier in the year, and he didn't get the usual X-Pac heat that accompanies him. He actually went over well. He rode the DX Army thing, returning the DX signs the fans were throwing up. Honestly, he looked fine. A little aged, but NOTHING like this. Sad Ralph's gone. He could shed some light on this, probably tell a story about him and Vader fucking up Jimmy Snuka, or something...

Vince is a horrible, sleazy, gross man. He's also a bully, I absolutely can't stand him or his terrible ethics.

I did feel sorry for Roddy watching that, I was never a fan of his character, and never really thought he was talented in the ring but I did gain a fair amount of respect for him watching that video. It it was upsetting when he said he didn't think he'd live until he was 65.

I honestly can't watch what qualifies as wrestling now, wrestling hasn't been good for the last decade unfortinately. I've sort of dithered in and out of it, and seen such a deep decline in quality since the days of Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Tatanka and Razor Ramon (etc).

I don't think I've felt the same about wrestling since Owen's death.

EDIT: I'd also heard rumours that Sullivan had something to do with Benoit's death, I'm pretty sure the woman Benoit killed had left Sullivan for Benoit. And that Sullivan had threatened to kill Benoit.

Cornette hates republicians.

It's cool that Jericho came back, but I heard that he may go heel since WWE wants him to face CM Punk for the world title.  That might be a good match.

I was hoping this Royal Rumble would have been 40 guys like last year.  I guess they're going for 30 since guys are injured like Sin Cara, Christian now it seems that Alberto Del Rio and Randy Orton have injuries as well.  I'm also pissed that WWE let Jon Morrison go.  2011 could have been his year. Hope he doesn't end up in TNA since they'll just have him win the X-division champ, but he'll probably won't be a world champ.  I hardly watch TNA anymore since it just has former WWE stars and guys I can't remember their names. I only know AJ Styles, Samoa Joes, Christopher Daniels, Robert Storm & James Storm, and Eric Young.

And WWE just started to suck again with this lousy debut of Brodus Clay

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7OVPE5ZCl4

They could've built this guy as the next King Kong Bundy or Vader.  Had him enter the Royal Rumble match and dominate.  Hell, I wouldn't mind if they had Vicki Guererro be his new manager, since would be an awesome throwback to the manager days of WWE.

Also, I can't stand John Laurinaitis, he's boring.  I love that CM Punk dissed him last night, but I wish it was someone like Bischoff or McMahon, since they have a personality when it comes to being the "evil boss".  John is just bland and dull and stutters sometimes when he talks, like he forgets what he has to say.  Punk's right, he can't cut a promo.

Shane Douglas buries Ric Flair

The Royal Rumble is tonight.  Who's going to win?  Personally, I've always loved the RR match, but I doubt this year's rumble will be good.  WWE is letting Road Dogg Jesse James, Mick Foley, Hacksaw Jim Duggan enter the match, right there should tell you what they want of the match. The fact that this year's rumble is 30 and not 40 ticks me off since those individuals are replacing unused WWE talent. I doubt WWE will have Road Dogg or Foley win. I also hope Randy Orton doesn't simply for the fact it's his hometown.  They didn't have Shawn Michaels win 2007 RR where it was at his hometown.  The Miz being #1 is surprising since before it was announced I imagined him being #1 and John Morrison #2 and they lasting a very long time in the match, though now I thought Morrison will appear in the rumble.  I just hope they don't have him just eliminating other people so quickly that it's 1 on 1 for most of the RR match.  That's not what fans want to see. HHH was #1 back in 96 and the RR match maintained a number of guys at a time and he lasted some 40+ minutes, there's no reason why Miz couldn't do the same.

Road Dogg? Strange choice...

Foley, in my opinion, probably shouldn't be in a match. He didn't look too good at the indy show I saw him in. He held onto the ropes like a cane most of the time he was in there.

Bringing it back to 30 pisses me off too. Like you said, bringing it back to thirty and bringing in three "Legends" is wasting the potential of thirteen other superstars on the roster.

Sheamus wins the rumble.  I was following the match from blogs.  Him winning is pretty good, except his victory is tainted over the fact this rumble was pretty weak, based on what I read. Both Cena or Kane weren't in it, but Kharma (Awesome Kong) and Michael Cole.  WTF COLE WAS IN THIS MATCH!!!!!. That's worse than Vince Mcmahon or Drew Carey being in the rumble combined, hell Coach was in a royal rumble that seemed better than Cole.  They really needed to have it be 40 men so guys like Brodus Clay, Yoshi Tatsu, Heath Slater, John Cena, Drew McIntyre, Kane and whoever else I'm missing could have entered and saved this this obvious shitty rumble.
