I usually don't care about these minor things but I seriously cringed at the end joke. It wasn't even a joke, it was just here's some dialogue oh, let's stop the show right here.
Was that the Night at the Museum thing? I thought that was kind of funny, actually. I agree that it was a lousy place to end the episode, but had it been part of an earlier scene I think it would have been fine. My main gripe with the episode isn't that it was unfunny (though it was tame and boring, which is as good as being unfunny)--it's that the story itself has been done much more successfully in the past. We get that Bart is a prankster with a heart of gold, and that he often forms bonds with the very authority figures he claims to hate. I guess I didn't see the point in him forging a relationship with Chalmers, when an episode about him and Edna or him and Skinner would have been just as interesting. I don't agree with pairing up characters who've never really been paired before just for the hell of it. Especially when the story itself seems really uninspired and derivative.

I wouldn't be sad if it ended. Maybe then I would even consider buying DVD sets

Agreed. It should have ended years ago.

I still say the movie would have been a perfect chance to end it all.

-Caution- I am not a Simpson's fan* -Caution- I didn't care for the movie at all. It's possible that I got so disinterested after a bit that I might not have fully appreciated better gags toward the end. * Though I LOVED "HOMЯ"

I don't get the hate for The Simpsons Movie, it seemed perfectly fine to me and far better than the series was at its current state when it came out. It's not perfect, but it's damn good and I look at it as falling somewhere between the classics and the new, it has its own feel, perhaps how the series should feel now really... More possible bad news. According to this even if it does get renewed then Season 24 will be its last? Although there is another quote later on that contradicts that statement. Am I reading this right? ... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/06/the-simpsons-next-season-last_n_998418.html

Hi, Dr. Nick! Also, I loved the movie a whole bunch, and agree that it would have been a great way to end the series.
Otis: It seems like they're either ending the series with season 23 or season 24, and that it's dependent on the actors agreeing or not agreeing to take a pay cut. Though at this point I would have no hang-ups with the series ending, it would kind of suck if they couldn't make it to that quarter-century mark.

If it definitely ends it should in a 1 hour special.

Or the best of both worlds: montages from preexisting episodes.

And for the episode before the final episode, a Futurama crossover.

No Futurama Crossover. They did that in the comics and it was terrible.
I loved it and thought it was very tastefully done. The artwork was top-notch too. Admittedly I enjoyed the first two most, but all four issues were still good. I liked them enough to not only buy each comic, but to also buy the hardbound book which is excellently presented. As for a real crossover episode, I would have my reservations, but I would be curious and quite interested in the prospect nonetheless...

I remember Seth MacFarlane saying he didn't want it to go beyond 10 Seasons too, but I don't see it stopping there now either which is why I have to wonder how long it'll go on for. Although admittedly topping The Simpsons would be a very long shot. Having said that when I joined Peel in 2001 and posted in the current Simpsons thread at the time I don't think I or anybody else here thought we would be having these conversations now with the Simpsons still running and no definite end in sight...
