Adultswim will be airing old episodes of PeeWee's Playhouse next week.  I was a big fan of PeeWee.  I loved his Big adventure, but didn't like his sequel Bit Top PeeWee.  I also hear Paul Rueben wants to bring his character back.

Wasn't PeeWee arrested for child porn or something?

Uhhhh, no.

He was arrested for masturbating in an adult movie theater, which in hindsight really isnt that bad.

I mean, what else to people do in an adult porn theater?!!

He's semi-right, he was arrested (again) a few years back in 'connection with an investigation involving child pornography'...it says later these charges were dropped against him.

I've only seen Pee Wee's Big Adventure once, I know I've got it on video somewhere...

I hope when they show it on Adult Swim they show the full version with Pee Wee Herman masturbating in the adult room of his playhouse.

I'm excited about this. Paul Reubens is a good actor, and I enjoy his Pee-wee character. I love Pee-wee's Big Adventure. The combination of Pee-wee, Danny Elfman, and Tim Burton was awesome. I'll be watching Pee-wee's Playhouse next Monday night.

What time will Pee-Wee's Playhouse be on Adult Swim next week?  My sister and I loved this show when I was a kid.  It would be fun to watch some episodes again.  I heard about this coming to Adult Swim, and I was surprised.  I mean, Pee-Wee's Playhouse was a kid's show.

Pee-wee's Playhouse was more of a cartoon with live action characters than a live action show with cartoon characters.

Pee-wee will begin airing next Monday at 11pm, right after Futurama and before Family Guy.

tyraniak: Saved by the Bell was a joke by [adult swim].

I always thought that charge was stupid.  That would be like getting arrested at McDonalds for ordering ketchup.

I checked their schedule. It looks like Mission Hill isn't on it for the rest of the some, as aren't the Oblongs. I like Mission Hill, though. I wish they made more than 13 episodes.

I mean, I know that it was marketed as a kids' show, and it was shown on Saturday mornings, but it seems to me that a lot of the humor was probably over the heads of the supposed target audience.  Try watching it on [adult swim] next week and see what you think.  You may be surprised.

I saw the Pee Wee yesterday.  I forgot that Laurence Fishburne used to be on that show.  There is some adult humor, but nothing too offensive.

Pee wees playhouse was weird enough to keep me interested, but I kept thinking" who created this and would let children watch this?"

Yeah, there's nothing that would be offensive to kids, but it still manages to be entertaining to adults.  Today's comedians could learn from this show.

I watched this last night as well, and I was almost overwhelmed by the sheer amount of nostalgia.  It was great to see Larry* Fishburne as Cowboy Curtis and the late, great Phil Hartman as Captain Carl again.

* He didn't start calling himself Laurence until he was in that Matrix movie and wanted to be taken seriously all of a sudden.  He'll always be Larry to me.

That was awesome. The only real thing that reminded me that it was a children's show was the little kids. It was quite funny, and it reminded me of the days when I would watch it all the time. Good to see Fisburne and Hartman, as David A said.

Also, I hope this is the only partial-live action show on [as] for a while. It would be odd to have more than one, and it was odd to have a show that was supposed to be a children's show on [as], but it was awesome to have it back.

Aw that sucks. I remember the good old days like last week when I used to watch that after Conan.

I can't remember if Pee-Wee creeped me out or not. I think I liked the show but the movie was weird. I watched it the other night and it surely wasn't what I remembered. But I don't rememeber much.

The bizarre thing about Pee-Wee's Playhouse was that it was adapted directly from a stage bit Reuben did as the character, which was quite definately NOT a family-friendly show. The decision to turn it into a saturday-morning childrens' show is one of the strangest in television history.

It was overall a mixed bag for Reuben; on the one hand, he probably made quite a bit of money and had a hell of a lot of fun making the show for years. On the other, if he hadn't been universally recognized as a childrens' TV star nobody would've batted an eye over the whole porn-theatre incident, which came very close to ending his career altogether.

It may have been a strange decision, but it turned out to be a good one.  The show ran for six years, and it won five Daytime Emmys.

Came very close to ending?  When was the last time you saw Paul Reubens in anything that wasn't a rerun?  He may still get the occasional movie role, but he's no longer the star that he once was.

But who knows?  Maybe he'll make a come back now that Pee-wee's Playhouse is being shown on Cartoon Network.

Each episode seems much shorter than I remember it.  Everything is sped up too quickly now.  Back then, it seemed Pee Wee's Playhouse lasted much longer.

Ok, after watching the first 4 eps they've run on AS, I have to say so far I'm not seeing this "adult humor" people keep refering too. I've already told TiVo to stop recording the show, as much as I loved it when I was a little kid, it's just kindof dumb now.

Still like the first movie, PWBA, tho.
The second one, BTPW, wasn't so hot. Whenever I watch it, it just makes me want to watch The Jerk instead.

Paul Reubens was on The Late Show with David Letterman two nights ago and Late Night with Conan O'Brien last night. On both shows, he said he has a script written for a new Pee-wee movie, which would feature the Playhouse characters going out into the real world. Conan had a Pee-wee suit for him, and the pants ripped when he put them on, so he just went into The Dance, and at the points when he went into Pee-wee's voice, the audience applauded.

I watched that! It was funny. When he was talking about how people address him as Pee-Wee and when I looked on the information thing on the TV guide I thought Conan was having that Rueben guy from American Idol on. I would be one of those people who confuses him for his real idenity.

Depends what you mean by adult humor.  If you're looking for dirty jokes, or anything else that would warrant a PG rating or worse, then you won't find any.  However, if you're talking about jokes that little kids probably won't get, but adults will, then yes, there are a few of those.

I think that it's a combination of the music, and the way that he looks back over his shoulder and waves goodbye at the very end.

David: by the end of the 4th I was too bored to say I was paying much attention, but still, I failed to notice a single joke that I wouldn't have gotten when I was 10.

I can't prove that without reviewing and posting the complete scripts, of course, but you can easily prove me wrong by quoting a single line... I'd almost be glad to be proven wrong, I remember the show very fondly.

During last night's episode, Cowboy Curtis was asked what size his boots were.

Curtis: "Size 12, double E."
Pee-wee: "Wow, big feet!"
Curtis: "Well, you know what they say, Pee-wee."
Pee-wee: "No, what?"
Curtis: "Big feet, big boots."

Did anybody see the one a couple of nights ago, with that green one-eyed monster? Pixar totally copied that character design. I never would have guessed!

Also, the show blew when I was a kid, and it blows now. For my money, "Big Adventure" is the only Pee-Wee material worth watching. That movie is a riot.

Yes, some one finally agrees with me, just because we ocasionally watched an awful show as children, doesn't mean we still have to watch it as adults, plus I agree that the movie is much better than the show
