I know there's 2 threads that already exsist on this but there a couple o years old and to be honest I reckon it's easier if I new thread is started. I wanna rant about how crap the eurovision is. It's really poor. Political isn't enough to desiccribe the voting the goes on (even tho everyone knows).....nay even Ireland and UK have been steadily giving each other 8/10 points in the last few years.

As for the songs.......well. I mean you've got a country takin' about winnin' the damn thing with a crazy bald guy goin crazy and then there's lord of the rings playin' a rock song (and they were one of the better entries) anyone with any sense could see Ireland's maybe Greece and this is saying alot but even UK gave some good entries compared to some of the crap, and I mean crap!

...and wot was with the dutch announcer....prick! Europe is makin' a fool of itself and I jus think we should end soon before it gets worst. Anyone think the same????????...anything I'll even take an armpit.....

damn! I was going to start a Eurovision thread with the title

'It was all going OK until they started to sing'

damn you! Anyway, I totally agree, it is a load of rubbish, but it's strangely watchable....

Eurovision 2006 was fantastic. That Dutch presenter was brill.

Finland for teh win!!111 Of course with Lordi winning that means next years show is going to rawk.

I don't take this event at all seriously, I don't think the UK does either. Italy has declined to take part in the contest since 1997, there were quite a few of the central countries missing from last night's show...

...but still, GO FINLAND!   :D

Yay, Lithuania's "We know a song that will get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves..."
Yay!
Though I mean, I know Terry Wogan keeps complaining about the Balkans voting for each other, but if you look at the history of the place - the fact that they're not killing each other is surely a good thing?
And it seemed a lot of Eastern European countries ended up giving very high points to Russia - the excuse could be that Dima is a sex-symbol in the East - and indeed so because I wouldn't really call it political or overly friendly voting - except Belarus of course - and possibly Armenia but I personally think that Russian and Armenia were possibly showing a symbol of solidarity after the Armenian airliner crash. But anyway, yes, where was I? Yeah, Ukraine and Moldova giving 12 to Russia...meantime their politicians are effectively accusing Russia of deliberately trying to undermine both countries' very existances! Russia is doing a very poor job in pretending not to be supporting a fair chunk of Moldova trying to break away! They're having petty trade wars - Moldova says "Right, well, we're putting very restrictive border controls on that region" so Moscow says "Right, well we're going to stop importing Moldovan wine...it's crap anyway and we're sure we've just discovered anti-freeze in it or something..." And they're involved in exactly the same thing with Georgia - though they're both as bad as each other there. Russia's pressure effectively obliterated all the good work that the Orange Revolution tried to get done in Ukraine - and effectively blew apart the Orange Parties at the same time.
And of course there's no love loss between the Baltic States and Russia.
so yeah, if you paint Russia's votes as political (on the most part), then that would surprise me actually.

Politics aside - I actually really liked the Ukrainian Kozaks. The Russian one wasn't too bad, but I probably prefered the Bosnian one - I actually felt that the Balkans could be excused for voting 12 on that one. Not only because it was called Lela ( :D) but I actually liked the sound of it anyway.
The British one wasn't too bad, but unfortunately I never saw it winning. But it's not the worst one we've fielded recently, by far.
And then there's the Suomi one...
You can tell it's European because they put a lot of effort into lyrics and tunes...
Bah, it was okay, Go Finland! But I prefered the Bosnian one.

Nice one lol and sorry mookie, the title wasn't thought out very well. I agree that the Finish entry was actually pretty good, there should be more rock acts at the eurovision - I'm really glad we beat FRANCE even though they clearly aren't bothered and just mardy that the entire show isn't in french.

No votes between portugal and spain, trouble may be bubling, and MALTA were saved on the final vote from gettin' 0 pwa (sp?).

Over the top, inflated and ridiculous, but flying the flag for metal.  Great!

It's cold up there. Too much booze. Makes your head do crazy things.

I recall watching a Nightwish behinds the scenes DVD at about 1am once. The singer's sole purpose is to come in every now and again and say "I disapprove" whilst the guys get exceptionally drunk, stupid, and more drunk.

I'm upset with many of you English people. Where's your sense of kitsch and humour. You're making us look angry and French.

I only really watched it last night for Finland and Lordi. All the other countries where all about love, peace and healing the world or winning euro vision, what a bunch of tripe.

Although I must say I didn't mind croatia. One of the very few countries that sang in their own language, it felt like a very Beer Hall kind of song, I could imagine a bunch of drunks in a pub going along with it, and the singer was one piece of fine. Gotta love those legs.

Also I say sing in your own countries language it sounds better and that way we cant tell what your bloody singing about.

"Oh, Lordi!" would've been a better title. Even if I already used that joke in the Test thread...

I saw Finland and laughed at them. Then The Office came on, so I watched that instead, laughing WITH them. And all was well. The end.  :)

I hate EUROVISION because it bumped Doctor Who off the TV, I'm only going to watch it because I've heard that there's a band that look like Klingon's (Star Trek).

If the UK sent someone like Robbie Williams, he'd be popular and might even win. But - think of the costs; it would probably cost the BBC (or whoever) more than the last 10 yrs of UK acts combined to send him. The reason we send bad music is because we don't want to win and thus have to host the damn thing, and also we love to see Terry Wogan getting mad.

All the entries I've heard for this year are more stereotypically Europoppish than usual.

Well, ABBA was on once, im sure you know them. But it sucks, you might as well have Kariokie Night on BBC1, at least it'll be entertaining. But having said that, last years winner was slightly entertaining, and Terry Wogan is occationally funny. Crap otherwise.

The two I thought might have done well didn't make it through the semi-finals tonight - Israel and Switzerland.

Think I'm gonna go with Sweden, Germany and Ukraine (for the lulz).

Weren't they going to have Morrissey at one point? That would have been amazing. Damnit.

My friends and I are doing the usual for Eurovision; going around to someone's house, dressing up/supporting one country in particular, sitting around for a few hours and then giving medals to the three people whose countries are placed highest. I'm hoping to do as well as I did last time - I got Russia AND a medal. What a brilliant night! I'm still waiting to hear what countries I can pick from this time. The suspense is awful. And inconvenient because I need to get my costume ready.

Holy crap, Finland have gone for what seems to be an Iron Maiden theme this year.
The real video for Lordi's Hard Rock Hallelujah had far fewer flames and devils. It was suitable terrible for an unknown heavy metal band.

Britain entry this year is especially bad. We've tried unusual in the past and it hasn't done very well (despite actually being quite good - relatively  :D ).

Eurovision; the reason for the existnace of Europe.  :D

Serbia wins with 200-and something points on their first time entering the contest.

Eurovision? More like bloody Balkanvision if you ask me. I suppose our lack of score also comes down to the British public choosing an exceptionally bad song, but I think that next year the Eurovision commitee or whatever should disallow countries voting for their neighbours. All these bloody eastern-European countries voting for one another, the bastards. And I'd like to know, since when was Israel in Europe???? It's in the middle east for crying out loud.

Mind you, the Russian girls were tasty  :flirt:

I remember in 1998 when Israel won it, there seemed to be a lot of debate about whether Israel was in Europe or not.

Any country within the European Broadcasting Union can participate in the contest. Azerbaijan may even be taking debuting next year and apparently Kazakhstan and Lebanon might be too...
