News just in (i hope, i didn't read all threads here the last days):

Quote
Kids' WB this week will announce production of the first new series in more than a decade featuring 1970s cartoon hero Scooby Doo. The new show, with the working title All New Scooby Doo! The Animated Series, will be the centerpiece of the network's Saturday-morning lineup this fall. It's part of the Scooby mania that AOL Time Warner is unleashing this year in support of its live-action Scooby Doo feature film, set to open June 14 and starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

now I didn't like the 70s version really, but hey it's cult.

What?  You monster!

Anyway, since I'm never awake early enough on Saturdays to watch cartoons, I doubt I'd watch that even if I wanted to.

I wasn't that big a fan back in the '70s, when I was the right age to watch it so I'm not going to get excited about it coming back. I do hope, for the sake of the children who will watch it, they have dropped that awful Scrappy, I'm not sure if he was supposed to be Scooby's Nephew or cousin but either way he sucked.

The WB has a bad track record with bringing back cartoon shows, as far as I'm concerned.  I'm betting this new scooby doo will be even more annoying than the old ones

It'll be interesting to see how they manage to make the show even worse this time around.

It sucked at first, with the same plot over and over again, and the worst laugh track in the history of television.

Then they added Scrappy Doo. Ugh.

Then there were the crappy guest stars. Don Knotts, The Adam's Family, Sonny & Cher. Again, ugh.

Then the stupid Pup Named Scooby Doo show. Muppet Babies sucked, and that was spun off from a cool franchise. Why did hanna-barbera think they could do any better? (they also had the Flintstones Kids cartoon. geez)

Now they have Freddie Prinze Jr. and Buffy the Vampire Slayer playing the leads in a live action movie. By far the suckiest thing ever.

How are they going to top that in this new cartoon series? Hopefully they'll have gritty rape scenes. Or weekly guest appearances by Jar Jar Binks.

I watched it as a child, I liked scrappy too but I've realised how weak it really is with age.

Don't get me wrong, classic child cartoon, but talk about a repetitive plot!  Also to quote a very good book:

Quote
"You like this show, man?"  Beaver says, taking the lunchbox.  He speaks quietly.  Henry watches with some interest, curious to see if the retarded boy will cry for his lunchbox.  He doesn't.
"Ey Ooby-Doos!" the retarded kid says.  His hair is golden, curly.  Henry still can't tell what age he is.
"I -know- they're Scooby Doos," the Beav says patiently, "but they never change their clothes.  Pete's right about that, I mean, fuck me Freddy, right?"

Pretty big quote isn't it?  Thank you, thank you.

The best Scooby Doo appearance was in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

From "Natural Born Kissers":

Marge: Is this what you pictured married life being like?
Homer: Pretty much... except we drove around in a van solving mysteries.

I always thought the gang in scooby-Doo where druggies. i mean think about it. They were college aged kids with no real job that drove around in a multipainted van. They always had the munchies and when they went into a haunted house and found a table full of food, they ate it, no questions asked. They were convinced their dog could talk to them and the villian was always the ONLY other person they came into contact with the entire show. And the main guys name was Shaggy. If they weren't high then the creaters/writers most certainly were.

Yeah I know, and for some reason Shaggy and Scooby ALWAYS got seperated from the others, and all the villians were hunchbacked and had a neanderthal face, and they always had meaningless chase scenes with music that doesn't even go with the scene or plot by some band that probably never existed, and Gary Nesbitt always appeared in the credits, and they used the same music over and over, and was Scooby's cousin Scooby Dum a waste of life or what, and they never actually used the phrase "meddling kids" once in the original series, and for some reason Scooby Doo was elected PRESIDENT of Cartoon Network, a position that Space Ghost or Brak rightfully deserves, and Freddy looks suspiciously similar to that guy from Josie and the Pussycats, and Shaggy looks suspiciously similar to that guy from Jabberjaw, and Jabberjaw was just basically Scooby Doo with a Shark instead of a Great Dane, and Cartoon Network plays different Scooby Doo shows and new movies all the time, and Scooby Doo showing on Kids WB is just another sign that CN and Kids WB are merging.

Scooby doo was never really a favourite with me, but at least it was bearable before that horrible scrappy doo came. He was so very annoying, I wanted to wring his little neck. Shaggy was my favourite character, such a dope and hours of laughing at his enormous apitite... I don't know about the rest of you, but as a 4-5 year old, I didn't think that he was on dope because as a child I didn't know the side effects of pot. And you're talking about a child who stopped believing in santa by the time they were 6, and listened to ACDC and Aerosmith.

So, Normal childhood then, apart from the not knowing about pot.

Only half joking - I dind'nt know about pot when I was 6 either, and didn't listen to ACDC.

You're right Rach. Scrappy sucked shit.  :nono:

Did I really say that? Oh well, it's true.

I haven't watched many of those shows when I was a little kid, I actually watched more of them in my teen years so I can say without a doubt the chars., plot and scenery are so damn predictable. I soon realized, there are never any real monsters in the show. That's where it loses so many points. Guest star appearances will be corny as well. Remember the Harlem Globetrotters?

The New Scooby Doo Movies has the Globetrotters in it. But I have that channel Boomerang, and I came upon the Super Globetrooter, a cartoon with the Globetrotters as superheroes. NO LIE.
