Well, we can only bring one show back. And we decided on Futurama.

So, we had another Firefly reference in Nathan Fillion's new series, "Castle" in tonight's episode. The story deals with Chinese espionage, and in one scene which takes place in a shop in Chinatown, Fillion's character starts inexplicably speaking Mandarin Chinese to the shop workers, which causes his parter to ask how the hell he learned to speak it. In response, he says that he learned it from an old TV series he used to love to watch.
Classy.

Do they have any idea how much distance is between stars?!

Exactly, even the intro to the film mentions that they found a planetary system with dozens of planets and hundreds of moons, not that they found several planetary systems.

To be fair, seven of those stars are helioformed gas giants. And since the barycenter of the seven protostars and the other five natural stars falls within or nearby the White Sun, they can be legitimately considered one system. Think of it this way: if Jupiter had ignited and become a star, would the Jovian moons be considered a separate planetary system apart from Sol's?
Also consider the age level the opening narrator of Serenity was speaking to. It was an indoctrination attempt on the righteousness of the Alliance, not a scientifically precise astronavigation lecture.

Uhm... you do realise how big a gas giant has to be to become a star, right? Yeah, and the only binary systems we know of have their stars pretty close together. While the gravity pull on the planets makes that system entirely unliveable. While I might accept one substar in a planetary system - even if entirely unheard of scientifically - 5? Come on.

34Tauri(2020) was originally a quintuple system with fourteen gas giants. Seven of these gas giants were large enough that they were also considered brown dwarfs. The helioforming process consisted of increasing the density of these brown dwarfs until they reignited as protostars. It's all there in the manual.
