Yes, that's right. I'm scared of Mal.

Mal is very much like myself.
I wish.

having just finished the complete series of Dark Angel (which I moderately enjoyed; the series finale totally sucked though, it kinda reminded me of the futurama one, where the relationship between fry and leela was never resolved, except that one was more bittersweet and understanding). anyways where was i? oh yes, i just finished watching that, and now i am on to Firefly. I've already watched part of the first episode (the first episode on the DVD, not the one FOX aired). I have to say it's not quite what I expected. Hopefully I can get more into its aura (?) as the series progresses (a whole what, 13 ep? haha oh well).

I do have a question though. The movie, Serenity, does it star the same characters, and if so, how would you rate it as compared to the series? Which one did you enjoy more?

Difficult to compare. I tend to see Serenity as a continuation of the series, another episode as it were, rather than a seperate entity. It does star all the same characters and follows on from the end of the series. It's just bigger and better, as a movie intended for the big-screen.

You WILL get into it as it progresses though. It's impossible not to.

ok, ok i just finished watching the complete series. It did get better as the series progressed, but now I can almost (re: almost) see why FOX chose not to air the original series premiere as the first episode, because when i first watched that one I was bored. The series ended on a lot of unfinished business...hopefully the movie addresses some of those issues? I think I'll go out and get it (the movie) soon.

One plus about the show, thought weird to us media viewers, is how they address the fact that there is no sound in space, so when they show the boosters or whatever there is no sound. I guess to the average viewer that would seem a bit odd though, hence why they play the music in the background during every one of those "transition" scenes.

I see someone said they're scared of Mal. In the series premiere I was a bit (and still am) scared of him too, because usually there is a lot of drama and build up to a character shooting/killing someone else, and he just did it on the whim continuously. It was unexpected and quick, hence scary heh.

Yeah. I, for one, appreciated the realism re: no sound in space. It's something that's always pissed me off no end in things like Star Wars... because I'm a pedantic twat.

As for Mal being scary... not as scary as me, baby.

I guess I must be since I watched the whole series and Serenity in three days. I just wish I'd seen Firefly before I first saw Serenity as certain events in the film would have had a greater impact if I'd known the characters better.

I guess I'll have to watch all the episodes with commentaries again now  :p

Why did you watch Serenity first, anyway?

I went out and bought Serenity right after I watched all the episodes.

I watched Serenity first because it was on offer at HMV a while back, because I enjoyed the film I decided to get the series as well.

I buy films I haven't seen before but not whole TV series as they cost more so want to be sure I'll enjoy them  :p

Just saw Serenity.

I really enjoyed the movie. It was terrifying and spectacular at the same time. One of my favorites. Saddened me at the end, though

edit: I really love this pic. found it on facebook

Damnit, now I'm going to have to buy another? This always happens to me. I'm glad there's more stuff, and of course I'm going to buy it, but still.

Also, Nice picture, Randi. I somehow forgot how freakishly beautifu Morena Baccarin lis. How is it possible to be that attractive? She must be a witch.

Also, if it hasn't been posted here before, Firefly fan-art from xkcd.

I've seen Serenity, but I've never actually seen the series. Can someone explain to me where, exactly Serenity takes place in the time line? I had assumed it was at the end, but someone told me that River is in the series as well which would mean that at least a part of the movie takes place well before the end of the series. Can anyone shed a little light on this, without using too many spoilers? I've been unable to track down the DVDs for the series locally.

Between the escape from the Operative's facility and the scene where they rob a planet that's about to fall prey to Reavers, Simon and River cross paths with the crew of Serenity.

Kaylee and Simon sorta annoy me...

i'm all for Mal and Inara's non-existent-relationship relationship

how come on the Serenity dvd cover River looks nothing like the pic? it confused me at first...I was wondering who that girl was...
