Archie Bunker from "All In the Family".  Bender parodied him in I Dated A Robot.  Matt Stone and Trey Parker admit that they were influenced by Archie to create Cartman for South Park.

Archie was pretty much the first lovable jerk on TV.  Master Shake, Bender, Cartman, and others have some influence from Archie.

That Ally McBeal is on there at all completely ruins any credibilty this list might have.

That and the "Friends" cast.

This isn't really a list of the best television characters though.  Its just a list of the most iconic characters from a bunch of the most successful shows ever.  Its something anyone could compile, and in this case it mildly reeks.

I can understand no Futurama since they job they're doing is picking the most popular characters ever, as opposed to the "best".  But no Bart or Lisa.......it kills the deal, not to mention I don't see any "SNL" characters on there either.

At least Cartman got on there, though.  Its always nice to see people still recognize South Park.

FFSoR, you misspelled "Bravo." I was a little confused about that.

The biggest screw-up is 11th place - Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City.  If there's ever been a more derivitive, bland, unlikeable, one-dimensional female character on tv, I'd like to hear about it.

I've seen a lot of characters that are pretty suspicious.  It seemed to be more of a "popularity" contest that TV Guide would do.  I really thought Bravo would be better than that.

Why are certain characters grouped together, while others aren't?  Tony and Carmella Soprano are in different slots, while almost all other tv couples are in one spot.  What gives?

Why does everyone hate Ally McBeal so much? The first two seasons were genius.

He is an American copy of Alf Garnett, toned down for US television of course.

Well, I'm not suprised that there is no Futurama characters on that list, because most people (I.E. the people who came with this list) don't know what Futurama is.

That list is terrible though, I mean the fact that Ally McBeal is on that list scares me. Another thing, I know Homer is popular, but one of the standout characters from the Simpsons is Bart, I can't believe he isn't on the list.

I would have put all The Simpsons under one banner like they did for Al and Peg Bundy, and the Seinfeld Cast.

The list isn't all that bad,  I must admit, Archie Bunker does deserve to be high on that list. He was a groundbraking character when All In The Family hit the airwaves. I wish a Futurama character was on the list, but remember the list is an opinion. Shows like Ally Mcbeal and Sex in The City wouldn't have been on the airwaves as long as they were if people didn't enjoy them. Obviously if the shows are loved as much as they are by the public, then the characters from these shows aren't bad, they just areen't the majority of our tastes. Making a list of this nature is a fairly subjective, so it is a given that everyone's favorites are not going to make the list. If we each made a list of out own I'm sure they'd all, for the most part, be quite different from eachother.

I just saw this on TV tonight at work, which explains the bump.

I honestly can't understand Bravo's rating system.  I don't know why Tony Soprano is so high or Capt. Kirk is so low.  I'm not surprised Sipowicz was ranked higher than Lennie Briscoe or Frank Pembleton (who I'm pleasantly surprised made the list), but higher than Joe Friday?  Seriously?  Prime-time TV detectives all trace back to Friday.  I am further surprised Buffy beat...well, anyone.    I think Cartman's importance is vastly overestimated by Bravo.

No Futurama, I mean I'll let Fry pass but Bender or Zoidberg? Come on! And why the hell isn't Bart on there? Ok, Friends is almost in the 50's so accordenly more stupid shows are better than them. This in a way surprises me as someone who watches Friends on WB but not in another way as someone who can't believe any good people are on here. With the exception of the Bundy's.

Buffy rocks. I like how Bravo doesn't include her last name. "We like this chick enough to put her on our list, but not enough (apparently) to know her last name is Summers"

So I jumped to the conclusion that it was Buffy the vampire slayer?  It could've been Buffy the Buffasaurus from the X-treme Dinopuffs Power Hour?  That actually makes me feel slightly better.

If it were THAT Buffy, then she would have been a lot higher on the list.

I suppose there isn't enough Family Guy episodes for him to be on the list.
Simply put, Homer Simpson should be No. 1, and I expected Bart to be in there.

Harriet the vampire slayer?  Pffft.

You're both wrong.  The best character is the one played by Alyson Hannigan.  All of the other characters are boring.

The only Bravo list of anything I half-way respected was their list of the 100 scarriest movies, and that seemed a bit off. I mean, Jaws at number one? The Wizard of Oz on the list? Must have been the flying monkeys!

And this list...is just crap. Homer and Kirk/Spock should have been much higher on the list. If they are going to list the cast of Friends and other shows together, they should have done the same with The Simpsons. All of the family, except maybe Maggie, would be quite high on the list. Also, the boys of South Park should have been grouped, not just Cartman. Cartman is nothing without the others.

joining in on the Buffy debate, i always found Giles to be one of, if not the, best character. however, i am incredibly glad to see dick soloman on that list, although the whole 3rd rock cast should have been on there with him.
