They Canceled "Futurama", but they are adding new "Family Guy" episodes AND are creating a new Seth cartoon named "American Dad"

Now If There was a Semi-Intelligent Monkey From Mars University, instead of business graduated from high-school, maybe we could of had some more Futrama episodes!

And maybe not have "American Dad"(shivers)

1) While it sucks Futurama's gone, Family Guy, American Dad, and Seth Macfarlane kick ass, so I don't know what your deal is.
2) Nobody cares.

Futurama cost a lot more to make than Family Guy. Family Guy doesn't have any 3-D stuff like Futurama did.

I agree, this thread is pointless. But I'll admit that I'm confused by the whole "American Dad" thing. Family Guy's premise was about as broad as you can get, and it got cancelled. Why would FOX buy a show that's just like it, but narrower in focus/more limited in humor?

The preview was ok, I guess. The alien had one line that cracked me up("...yeah...I'm pretty sure I asked for Pecan Sandies" ). But compared to Family Guy's pilot, it really didn't have many big-laugh "money gags".

So if this show has as the same lousy character development as Family Guy, but without the big laughs, I don't see why FOX thinks this will be successful at all.

I don't think it's a clone. It didn't have any of those "remember that time when" jokes, even if the family structure seemed kind of similar. The jokes were a lot funnier in the American Dad pilot, probably because Seth was getting help. The jokes in the Family Guy pilot were mostly clunkers.

Hmmm...are we talking about the same Family Guy pilot, here?

I'm talking about the first episode(you know, the one that aired after the superbowl a few years back). Which, according to the DVD commentary, all of the normal Family Guy writers worked on.

Before that, there was a shorter version of that episode, which Seth did all by himself. I've never seen it, though, so I can't judge. But the first fully-produced episode was as funny as any other Family Guy episode. Definitely well above the Family Guy average, and definitely funnier than the American Dad preview/pilot.

Also, I didn't say American Dad was a "clone". I meant it was "just like" Family Guy in terms of the comedy sensibilities. It's obvious just by watching it that the show was done by Seth McFarlane...the humor is similar to Family Guy, yet without any big laughs.

That's not to say I didn't laugh during the American Dad pilot, because I did. But is there any joke in there that would get people talking(the same way people retell jokes/scenes from Family Guy or The Simpsons)? Were there any lines that fans will be quoting to each other? Aside from the pecan sandies line, I can't think of any.

I've been saying "This time it was toast. This time." for a few days now. Cracks my friends up.

Yeah Joe, that's where the problem stems. I was talking about the shorter one that was just done by Seth. It appears on the Season 3 DVD.
