Don't know about that, Leela definetely made me laugh more consistently than Amy (don't hurt me, Kryten!), then again she does have a hell of a lot more screen time and my viewpoint might be (excessively) skewed.
Basically I agree with everything SlackJawedMoron said. And the first part of "Love_For_Leela's post.

Hey Woodbot, this is a futurama board yet you can't even spell futurama? I'd double check ya signature if I was you.
And as for your not so much romance without Leela comment, I reckon that's a brilliant idea! Less romance! Woohoo! Down with TV romance! Up with senseless violence and comedy!

I always compared her to Marge from the Simpsons. She's the responsible one who keeps everyone in line or in some cases alive.
But she enjoys having a good time every once in a while. Remember in "Route of all Evil", she is as excited to get drunk and make beer just as much as Fry of Bender.

I gotta say I agree, without Leela, this show would cease to exist. She's a good character, and has some funny lines on occasion. But when they started basing episodes on her ("Leela's Homeworld," "A Leela of Her Own" ), things started getting rocky. It's like episodes centered around Marge. They work, but both characters aren't funny enough. "Bicyclops" worked because of Fry, Bender and Alcazar, and "Birdbot" worked because of Bender, Fry and Zoidberg. But with the first two I mentioned, there was no one to fall back on. "Leela of Her Own" was partially saved by Hank Aaron and the Cygnoids, but "Leela's Homeworld" was just an abomination. All and all, even though she's not the funniest character, Leela rules.

Leela based episodes are the worst! (With the exception of A Bicyclops built for two) I love Zoidy, Hermes and Bender based episodes. Fry ones aren't bad either. Amy ones and the Professors ones, however few they are, are still good. But Leela episodes make me

I don't know, maybe the writers wrote that in to get a bigger audience reaction. Common sence would say that Leela going out with the biggest jerks (though Doug wasn't - just vile) but still considering her standards too high for Fry, the only one she knew really felt for her - though he had difficulty expressing it in a smart way - as stupid. And everyone went around saying it. Pehaps it was (the writers writing) Leela secretly deliberately playing hard to get, forcing Fry to really work before Leela felt she could settle down with him in any form of relationship. If you felt something for someone, and knew they felt something for you, but when they try and make a move what they say/do actually insults you, you'd naturally say no. You'd want them to improve their methods of trying to impress you, otherwise they may never learn.
