I don't think they ever mention it in the commentary, but David X. Cohen did bring it up in an interview he did with a web site (wanna say its "No such thing as too much Amy Wong" ). IGNER is the illigitimate son of Professor Farthsworth, as says DXC. Makes sense...he's the one the most grossed out by Mom and the Professor together. "the man is going to touch mommy? euuuwww!!"

The purple actually looks nice with her heart shaped hair.

Hmmmm... Well I suppose now that those points have come up, they are plausible. I suppose. The Prof and Mom, when they got together, must have been older than they looked. I still like to think, though, that Walt as Farnsworth's son is more plausible, and not because he's relatively intelligent. It just seems to make more sense. If we're going by hair color, who is to say that Zapp isn't Larry's dad? As mentioned, people live to an extraordinary age in the year 3000. Zapp looks middle aged, and it's safe to assume that he's even older[even if he acts like a stud]. And as far as scruples go.. Zapp doesn't have too many. Now that I've said that, the quote "You're the only woman who loved me. I mean, PHYSICALLY!" comes to mind. But just imagine, if it were true...
