so what's the real story about the thing that happened in "bender gets made" where he makes them a dinner and then makes them pay? someone in this thread said it really happened? is this true?
'twas I.
From the "Bender Gets Made" episode:
While the PE crew sits and eats, the guys talk about the upcoming moment where Elzar double-cross the PE crew, and give them a bill, after they thought the meal would be free. Apparently it's based on a true story, and David is a bit hesitant as to whether he should tell it or not.
David: "Do you think I can tell the story it's based ... or not?"
Matt: "Well, just leave out the name of the restaurant."
David: "Oh, okay. This is based on a story told to my by a writer of the Simpsons, who was at a famous restaurant, with about 10 people. Some of them had met the chef before, so the chef took them to a private room and said "you know what? I'm going to take care of dinner tonight. You just leave everything to me. You don't have to order." So they bring in dish after dish, food came flowing into the dining room, they ate like kings. He said it was one of the best meals he had ever had in his life; champagne, vine, cigars and stuff like that, and then at the end when they were about to leave the check showed up, to their surprise, since they thought he was treating them. And the check was for 3500 dollars."
Matt: "Well, uh, the operating phrase there was "I'm going to take care of this."
David: "It was some kind of vague phrase, ..eh.. that was actually meaning he was going to decide what they were eating, but they thought it meant he was throwing the whole dinner for them."
Matt: "You know, a network executive once said to me: "don't worry, we're going to take care of you", eeh .. ehh, it was the same thing!"
*laughter*
