Hello All,
I've not posted here in a while (darn RL!),   :hmpf:
Meanwhile I've been lurking just beyond the light watching all the goings-on.   :D
For those of you who might not already know, I'm a Leela/Fry shipper and darn proud of it thank you very much. Be that as it may, I've something to ask my fellow shippers. I don't believe quite this thing has been done before. But, to my question(s):

Regarding the Leela - Fry 'thang, if you could say anything at all to them, what would it be?

What impediments (large or small) are there in their way, and how should those impediments be addressed, for Leela & Fry to come together?

What would you have them say to one another?

Bear in mind that all this is aimed at Leela & Fry developing into a fully developed mutually loving relationship.*

If you object to the question, please feel free not to reply.   :)

That's all I have. I look forward to your replies (if any).  ;)

I'll shut up now. Well, at least for now;)

I do so hate that word "relationship!"

I'd have them not smother whole episodes with their lovey goo-fest, a la "The Sting."

Thanks Shadowstar.
Fine, you're entitled. What would you have them do?

Thanks ActionLaPointe.
In other words, Fry needs to be smarter, and/or more mature? And Leelea needs to be less uptight?

I perceive Venus is a mite peeved...

@ Venus
So, do you (or your ferocious attack cat) have anything to add to the discussion?  :)

<Aside>
D'ya hear it? No? That's the sound of my pillow calling my name. I'm going off-line (in more ways than one) for a good bit.

i don't know exactly what i would have them say to each other, but the scenerio i would like to see is: Fry and Leela get trapped in an elevater and while waiting to be rescued Fry suggests they play '20 questions' to pass the time. Leela agrees and they start playing. At first it's real simple questions, like favorite color and stuff like that, but the longer it continues the more serious and personal the questions get until they are confessing things to each other that they have never told anyone else before. And of course it's only a matter of time before Fry starts asking about their relationship, and the conversation develops from there.

And the Attack Cat is really only interested in licking the back of her thigh right now, so she has nothing to add.

Sorry if I sounded like a dick, but I really hate everyone raving over "The Sting," while I saw it as a sap-fest.
Anyway, I don't know what I'd do with Fry and Leela. I'd keep it going the same as now, I guess.

i can forgive you. After all, you're a guy, i'm a girl. So stereotypically speaking, a sap fest to you is a triumph of emotion to me.

NO! That's not it! I'm not an emotionless asshole! I loved the emotion in "Time Keeps On Slippin'" and "Luck of the Fryrish." I just didn't like it for an entire episode. "Parasites Lost" worked, with the perfect balance of the Fry/Leela romance and the hilarious voyage inside Fry's body. "The Sting" was all romance, with not a lot of good jokes.

...I like Venus's idea with the elevator!  But do they have elevators in the future?  Anyway, someone write a fanfic about that!

...yeah.  As for what I'd have them do...um...I have noooo idea.  I'm not clever or romantic in any way whatsoever.

P.S.~Yes, I admit it.  I'm a closet shipper.  Don't tell anyone!!!

"Parasites Lost" made me laugh most of the time, while I was in tears by the end of "The Sting"...but I don't think that Fry's rabid adoration of Leela is gonna cut it in the long run. He needs to show her some kind of responsible act before she takes into account the savings and operas. Although it could help if she was less of an ice queen...

I do believe Shaucker is on to something.

It's obvious immediately to even the casual observer what Fry's "issues" are: Immaturaty, ignorance or stupitity, and so on.

What about Leela?

I have my own thoughts, but I want to hear yours.

The Sting was all romance???? What ep were you watching?  The Sting was more descent into madness than romance.

@Mango: yeah there are elevaters. The crew ran into one to escape Robot Santa.

@spacecases: I think one of Leela's problems could be a fear of opening up to people. Because opening up to people is a form of vulnerability. And she doesn't like being vulnerable. Which makes sense considering her history. She was abandoned, emotionally abused, and was an outcast. If she dates some guy she just met and things go bad she can dump him and never see him again, but with Fry he's there everyday. And as far as i can tell he's the closest thing she has to a best friend. And he has a tendency to get involved with women and then lose interest rather quickly. So as far as she knows the odds of failure for a relationship with Fry is fairly high. And if she gets involved with him and things go bad, she hasn't just lost a lover she's lost her closest friend as well.

@ Venus:
Valid points.

@ Everyone:
To restate the question(s): What would you say or do to Fry and/or Leela to bring them together?

How do you know that for sure? some people get over that and seem to become friends again.

@ Futurama_Hil:
I think Venus' point is not that it will happen, but that Leela is afraid it might.

And evidence might back her up. How many of Fry's former lovers (excluding Amy) does he have contact with on a regular basis? Sure, they all showed up for Fry's funeral in her dream, but otherwise no contact at all.

Sorry, forgot this was for shippers exclusively. I'll butt out now.   ;)

You misunderstand, Teral. My comment was not intended to put-off non-shippers, it was intended to put-off those who would merely post to flame the question, me, "shipping" in general, or otherwise add nothing to the discussion.
So long as you're not doing any of that, you're not butting-in.

Grrrr... I didn't mean ALL romance. I meant it was all about Fry and Leela. This failure to communicate frustrates me!

I liked "The Sting" for it's bizarre storyline and good jokes. Sure there were some shippy elements, but nothing that would qualify it as a shippy episode.

:D Perhaps that would help. But I still think that it's a fear of communication. Maybe if Leela opened up to Fry she would realize that maybe he would be mature and commiting in a relationship.

With all due respect I think that's a tedious idea. I have no real problem with the Fry and Leela relationship being a major part of a plot and in a few cases in the series it works well, but I couldn't possibly see how that idea would be interesting at all.

If there is/had been a 5th season, I think the relationship would have remained subtext for the most part, except in a few episodes.

Second!

I'm sure they held off the Fry/Leela thing to tease the audience (plus it gives them more jokes and stories the longer they hold out)

But they are definately hiding something, the relationship hardly gets mentioned on the commentaries except for a few sly remarks usually involving us shippers or whether they should get them together so they have definately had meetings on this and possibly even came up with a draft of an episode where they confess all to each other.
I can wish....
The elevator fanfic sounds good though!   :)

The trouble with UST is it can only go on for so long before it gets stale. Can you imagine what it would've been like if Futurama had lasted as long as the Simpsons and they still hadn't gotten together?

Well, getting them together would've worked but they would have to write in a few mishaps to maintain interest in the show, so there relationship would be far from perfect.

But don't you love it when sci/fi manages to convey feelings we all have or have had?
(in the 'shippers' case with regards to fry/leela)

Its like one of those New Romantic/Love ballads from the 80's you secretly like, or if like me, punish your friends ears with it!
