What's wrong with my President of the Plane hat? The brim is too small.
It's at Kif's funeral and Leela is trying to comfort Amy. Save your hug for the widow whose crying her eyes out. :P SPOILER ALERT!
Yivo brings him back to life.
True but it the idea does seem extremely evil/funny. Xanfor: You poor thing! You look so folorn. Leela: Well I'm here because my friend's husband suffered a brutal and horrifying death. Xanfor: That must be so hard for you! Leela: Yeah I had to get my hat dry cleaned, my arm is getting tired from patting Amy on the back, and I'm running out of nice things to say about Kif... I didn't even like him that much. Xanfor: You're a saint! Hey, is there any way we can get this noisy asian broad to shut the hell up? I swear some people always have to make it about them... Leela: Tell me about it. I don't even get why she's making such a big deal about it, it's not like they were dating or anything...

Eeeeeeew.
I'm not sure how I feel on this. I relate to both of them in a lot of ways, but I think I might go with Amy. I love smart, kick-ass Amy: the Amy who drove the ship, the Amy who wins at mini-golf, the Amy who got her PhD with an invention that sounded pretty freaking awesome.
Amy is pretty awesome. The recent episodes and movies really seem to be developing her personality and the writers seem to have realized she's a very underrated character with a lot of potential. I think she's easily one of the most complex, multi faceted characters on the show now, thanks to some good solid character development. She also seems that despite the riches and privilge, she seems to have had an unhappy childhood (from Leo treating her with disappoitment that shes not a boy, to the parents insulting her, in ways that sometimes border on emotional abuse.) Plus we always assumed she was stupid or at least an average student, hence her parents buying her into Mars University, but since we know she's actually a genius, this seems to imply that they neglect her and don't realize her abilities, or a complete lack of faith that she is able to get in on her own brainpower. The few times we see her interact with her parents, they are usually rather unkind to her. Also, she was extremely overweight as a child (not to mention her parents seem to have teased her a lot about it) and she continues to have a barely restrained eating disorder to this day, I'm guessing her compulsive eating started due to being depressed as a child (I know quite a few people who are overweight, simply because food is the only thing that makes them happy, a trait that started in childhood). To this day, Amy has an extremely unhealthy relationship with food.

Don't feel too bad for her, because out of all the characters with unhappy childhoods, she's the one who has managed to turn her life around and be happy in adulthood (except for Fry, who was too naive to realize how awful his parents treated him as a child). She seems to be fine, except she seems overly eager to please, and of course, her extremely unhealthy relationship with food. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FormerlyFat This is a pretty good description about how her childhood obesity probably still affects her.
I once read about pop psychology in the internet, so I know pretty much everything about how the world works. POP PSYCHOLOGY! Why get a degree when you can read about it on wikipedia?
As for all the times Amy has said she knows Leela is smarter then her... I am guessing that's another indicator that she probably has very low self esteem, or at least lower then she lets on. As for the whole smartness thing, I guess Amy is much smarter then Leela academically, but has absolutely no common sense whatsoever (whilst its the opposite with Leela, except Leela is far from stupid bookwise. She's just not doctorate level)

I don't know about that. Amy had enough sense to recognize what a great guy Fry is, and when Fry screwed that up, she had enough sense to move on and have a lasting relationship with Kif, who seems to be a good match for her. Meanwhile, Leela was spending most of her time running away from a relationship with Fry.
If Leela has so much more common sense than Amy, then how come Amy is happy and Leela isn't? Mama always said stupid is as stupid does.
Leela is pretty emotionally vunerable, and often rejects people because she is scared of being hurt. Amy just has a lot more confidence socially, while Leela is very insecure, due to her treatment at the orphinarium, and people being put off by her one eye. I suppose you could say Amy has much better social skills then Leela, who is sometimes rather socially inept. While Amy had a pretty crummy childhood, Leela's was even worse.

We had a Fall Madness in 2004, where the Futurama characters battled it out. Leela reached the Final (where she lost against Fry), Amy was beaten before even the Semi Final.
