Where should Leela and Fry go on their first date?

I'm not.  There certainly wasn't any indication in the episode itself that his feelings for Leela had anything to do with his decision.

Fry really didn't start to pursue Leela's love for real before the 3ACV episodes. In the 2ACV episodes the show was mostly sci-fi comedy. Sure there were a few shippy scenes here and there, but nothing that would amount to a full-blown lovestory. I have to agree with David that Fry's feelings for Leela had nothing to do with breaking up with Amy, he did it because he was immature and afraid of commitment, a guy basically.

I'm not going to say that.  We all know Fry left Morgan for what she did to Bender.  He left Michelle because of her atitude and Umbriel...trouble in bed.  As for Amy there really is no good reason as to why Fry dumped her, except for his crazy reason.  My guess it involved something inside of him.

Teral: WHat about A Flight to Remember?  That technically was an episode from the first season, even though it aired in the second.  That explains as to why Fry dumps Amy later in PYHOMS.  He tells Leela.

Fry: We seem like a perfect match, but I'm not interested in her that way.

That doesn't mean he wouldn't pass a chance to go out and sleep with Amy and those other women, though.

Matt and David have said that the main story of Futurama is the bulding relationship of Fry and Leela.
Let my break it down to certain things that prove this.

SP3K- Fry and Leela learn that they have a lot in common since they both a people who are alone.
E2TSHL- Fry and Leela spend time on the moon and in the Lunar Lander.
MTS- Leela seems to be really concerned about Fry.  Fry makes her mad, but she still chooses to help him.  Fry cries when he thinks Leela is dead.
AFTR- Leela is jealous when Fry and Amy pose as a couple.  Fry and Leela say it is good to be alone together that they almost kiss.
ISTE- Leela tells Fry she loves him as a friend, making Fry say damn
Xmas Story- Fry and Leela say it's good being alone together.  They almost kiss.
PYHOMS- Leela is jealous of Fry when he's dating Amy.  Fry dumps Amy after she likes hanging out with him.  Leela tells Fry she likes hanging out with him, but he doesn't seem to mind.
ABBFT- Fry saves Leela from marrying a jerk.
AOI- Leela is implusive and sleeps with Fry, even though it is from the What if machine you have to wonder if that is what Leela wants.
WITH- Leela goes along to help Fry and Bender.
PL- Fry tells Leela for the first time he loves her. Leela falls in love with Fry, but dumps him when he loses the worms.  Fry still has an interest in Leela, since that is image that pops up in the holophoner when Fry plays it.
TDTESS- Leela even though she's stupid is the only PE crew member that follows Fry to the Library.
TL- Fry and Leela are both going together to the award ceremony, but spend time in the tar pits
TCHR- Fry is the only one who says Leela looks prettier as a cyclops.
IITM- Fry and Leela kiss twice.
TKOS- They get married, divorced and Fry's Love message is destroyed before Leela can she it.
LAR- Leela is flattered by the candy that Fry chokes on and they spend Valentine's together with Zoidberg.
LH- Fry is concerned about Leela's saddness and helps Leela find her parents
ALOHO- Fry wants to pat her on the butt but is too embarrassed.
TMLH- They go on a date as kids and watch carefully at the scene where they are grown at the foundtain of aging.  Leela has just finished her speech about loving the life he's lived and she and Fry stare at each other with smiles.
TWOF- Fry and Leela kiss for no comical reason.  Leela is happy to see Fry that night.
TS- Leela is guilt ridden and sad when Fry dies.  Fry never left her side when she was in the hospital.
TFP- Universe 1 Fry and Leela are married.  Leela A decides to go out with Fry A to an ape fight.
THBB- Leela is the first person Fry saves in the fire.
TDHAIP- Leela is seemly impressed by Fry's holophone playing that when Fry is lousy again, she's the only person willing to listen to the lousy playing.

All these scenes tell me why Fry dumped Amy unexpectedly and why Matt and David have said that the main issue about Futurama was the building relationship of Fry and Leela.

Well, I read about in at tvtome.com a year ago, saying that aparentally the whole series was building to the final episode.  When it was certain that TDHAIPT was the final episode, it mentioned that Matt and David did the right thing in making this episode.  Matt and David made this episode for insurance, because they feared the show would be cancelled.  Now, if FOX was to renew the show, then Matt and David could go into what they had planned with the newly developed relationship of Fry/Leela.  However, if FOX cancelled the show, then Matt and David had ended the show with a happy note to fans that Fry and Leela would be together, since it is what Matt and David have planned.

...it's too bad that's the main story, because it's just not funny. It could have been all light-hearted but NOOO, it has to be depressing, just like real forking life.

Well I think it's sweet that no matter what, Fry has always loved Leela. Even when she killed him in The Sting he was still there in her coma trying to keep her calm while she went 'insane'. Although he really was alive and still stood by her side until she woke up. Also if anyone noticed, in TMLH when Fry and Leela went out as teenagers they were gay happy to go on a date with each other. When Leela walks down the stairs of her house when Fry comes to pick her up they both smile in a cute/nervy kinda way. I thought it was so funny. But you're right fryfanspyOrama, in a lot of the episodes they are together a lot.

Leela- So Fry how do you like the new impulsive me?

Fry- I like it!

Leela- Good, now lemme just get the lights.

She turns out the lights and we hear Fry scream than it's quite for a second...

Fry- I really like it.

It's only a downfall for the people who hate anything resembling a positive emotion. For the rest of us it would have been great.

It's not that bad. It's a downfall, but the show was good. And I think that TDHAIPT was a good episode to end the show on. (Hence the beginning title: See You on another Channel, was a bounce off of it's canclation) It didn't come out and say that Fry and Leela were now dating but it was what we were suppose to asume. I loved that episode

What I meant to say was Fry/Leela relationship was one of the main stories.  If the show was renewed I would expect Matt and David to have other storylines along with Fry and Leela's new relationship.

If the show was to have continued, I don't think you would have seen them get together automactic.  They probably would've gone out, but nothing serious as Kif/Amy.  Matt and David probably would've save that for the future.  However, if the show never gets renewed and a movie is never made, we can only assume that they became a serious couple after TDHAIPT.

What would you want the main issue of Futurama to be?  I think it is cute and cool that Fry/Leela relationship was a main focus of the show.  It was the romance in the sci-fi action, comedy, drama, romance show that was Futurama.

Spacedal11, I agree completely: Fry would give everything he has for Leela - up to and including his life.
But he's still Fry, and disaster seems to follow him wherever he goes, whatever he does.

Wait a minute - in TMLH Leela and Fry did go on a date in Mutant Town: A refreshing(?) dinner of sewer-burgers ("Hold the rat droppings, please!) followed by an air-boat race.
Yes it wasn't your garden-variety date; Leela was probably more motivated by wanting an adolescent experience she never had when she was growing up, rather than wanting to spend quality time with Fry - But it was a date nonetheless.
So the question is "Where should Fry & Leela go on their first 'real' romantic date?" Or some drivel like that.
I'll vote for the ice-fields of Hyperion (or... however you spell it...)

That's true but if you look at how they say hello BOTH of them are neverous had all smiles. So I don't think she was totally not into Fry mayebe 10% of the date. But if Fry never gets her, I'm always open Fry!

Either that or Hoth (mentioned by Hermes in "The Sting" (Sweet three toed sloth of ice planet Hoth!)).

Given the romantic context, Hyperion sounds like the best bet (although planet and moon are two entirely different astronomical objects, Europa is out of the running for the same reason).

I think they should go back in time to where they were on the Titanic, looking out at that nebula....looking into eah others eyes....about to kiss...but instead of the ship crashing into an asteriod and Leela headbutting Fry Kif should have regained control of the ship and steered it away from the deadly blackhole! After all they are always commenting on the beauty of nebula, quazars, and space in general, and what could be more romantic than a cruise through Space Paradise..
