An early Leela drawing?
On a DVD?  [Zoidberg]Awww, I don't have a DVD player! [/Zoidberg]
I've seen the early Fry drawings in the Futurama-O-Rama comic book. Are there some more early drawings?
... and would someone please post this drawings here?

He was talking about this drawing:

Pretty neat, although the lips and nose suck in my opinion (not to mention the eye is a bit too small). That is why I think this is a better version of that drawing. (yes, it's shameless selfpromotion  :p )

Well, it is a rough sketch, Teral.  Obviously her character design was refined quite a bit after that sketch was done.

yeah, they did play around quite  abit with various concepts in these sketches. But from the looks of it the intention of this sketch was to give her a small nose and pouty lips. I'm just saying I prefer the final lips/nose combo over this.

But still better than some of the other sketches, although some of them where quite funny.    :D

So did the artists, apparently.   :)

I love the one where Leela's head is just a giant eye ball.

The one that makes her look like a hooker, is hysterical. She's leaning against a street sign smoking a cigerette. Even the captian with the picture acknowledges that it's not a very dignified concept of her.

So very true:

She's nothing but undignified eyeball.

Interesting pictures. Very strange but still interesting. Although the second one is just too strange for my liking.

Yeah, there has got to be a face. The latter is just too freaky. Just imagine waking up next to that creature.

Early Leela hairstyles:

More early Leela concepts:

When I first saw the full-body shot I thought she had a tail. And how about the devil horns in the lower left corner?

The one on the left scares me. Love the eyeball-pet though.  :laff:

The other "pirate" version was way better.

There's something (non-Futurama) familiar about this design, yet I can't recall from where.

The eyeball pet is made of solid platinum (metaphorically speaking). But why would they give Fry an antenna? I remember having seen the above ones before, but I don't recall if there was some comments for them.

All of those scare me, except the last one. The ones on the right in the first picture make Leela look like she's in her late fifties!

I'm thinking Luanne, from King of the Hill.

Maybe, there's a slight similarity. Then again I don't like KOTH, and I didn't get an uncomfortable feeling when I saw the design. Maybe it's just deja vu.

That is one strange looking avatar. I think I prefer Nibbler as Leela's pet rather than that thing though.

I hate the one with just the big eyeball, and the ones with the eyeball pet (although the pet itself is kinda cute) - she looks really tarty, and I like Leela being the smart and responsible one. The aviator's cap one is clool though, and the one with those pigtails. Although I like Leela's actual design better than any of these drawings, as interesting as they are to look at.  :)

Another version of Leela, by Bill, based on Matt's original design
Hm, I wonder how this "original design" looks like ...

Uhm, it's very nice that this thread is - till now - basicly just about early drawings of Leela, but ... Hey, you Bender-, Fry- and Amy-Lovers, this thread is for you too.  :)

The show wouldn't have worked with the eyeball ones though. They just don't have enough humanity.

Wasn't there an early drawing of Amy as a tank girl or something. I might be wrong since I was skipping through them and it caught my eye, but just try and skip back a page on the PS2, it's impossible I say!

I think it's interesting how Bender had those ear thingies right up until the last minute. Also Amy reminds me of someone from the Simpsons. I can't think who though.

Are you kidding? That last Bender design rules! Dave Cooper has such a clool style. Ok, so maybe it wouldn't suite what Bender is like in the show, or even Matt Groening's drawing style for that matter. But for a robot, I think it's a damn cloolsome design!

Also, it's not in this thread yet, but I love that one wheeled robot design Dave Cooper did. Such a pity it was never used in the show...

Dave Cooper's Bender does not fit his personality. But a cool design, as Otis said. I kind of think of French comic books when I see it.
