So...it was just culture shock that convinced him the guinea pig he just ATE was giving its own life to trick him?

 

And I know there's a culture shock issue, but after ten years (at least) on Earth, he could have learned the basics.  His schleppiness and general weirdness may make him look less "on the ball" than he actually is, and in a culturally unbiased test he may score slightly higher than Fry (if there's a food prize involved), but I think we have to conclude that he still isn't the brightest spoon in the silverware drawer.

I see what you're saying, and I agree: Zoidberg is far from "smart."  I'd still hold him about half a notch above Fry, though.

I would say Fry , zoidberg isn't that stupid it's just that he knows alot about  decapodian ( sp?) anatomy and not too much about humans.

I think zoidberg is still trying to adjust to earth and sometimes can be too trusting.

I think someone pointed out in a commentary that zoidberg has the emotional maturity of a 5 year old.

Like many others have said, our Zoidy is simply incompetent when it comes to human society. He doesn't know much about them at all. Fry, on the other hand, has been living with humans his whole life. He knows everything about human society (even if it is slightly bent in the future) yet he's still stupid doing the simplest of tasks.
Ex: talking to Sal in PL and crapping up everything he says.

We don't know enough about Zoidy to compare. I think Fry can be intelligent when he wants to be, he chooses not to be because he's lazy and just wants to do his own thing.
Like sit in front of a tv with a can of slurm with his best friend. He has his moments because he is 'special' 
Zoidberg has no excuse. *woopwoopwoopwoopwoop*

I seem to get the premonition those 'learning disabilties' are the fault of lackng the Delta brain wave. although i'm not sure if they said that officialy in an ep. or if they just alluded to it.

Fry doesn't use his brain a lot of the time. And Zoidy is just ignorant to a degree.
