David Cohen mentioned in an interview that if Futurama had continued, one story would reveal that Igner is actually the son of Farnsworth.  We don't know the others' father(s).

Didn't they dump this idea? Also, Igner would have to be at least 70 then...

Well, here's exactly what he said:

"Yeah, there were a few [unused storylines] -- if I go back to Igner, for example, part of the reason we didn't follow this one was because we didn't end up making him such a big character. But one thing we were going to reveal down the line was that Igner was the Professor's illegitimate son, because he and Mom had had a fling years ago. That was one we were going to follow a bit more, the past history of Mom and the Professor."

Wouldn't it make more sense for Walt to be the Profesers Because he is the oldist?

Are we ever actually told that Walt is older than Larry and Igner, or is it just assumed?

Pretty sure it's just assumed (And we all know what happen when you assume, right?), based on their intelligence/maturity. For all we know they could be (non-identical) triplets.

You can get unidentical twins, can't see why it shouldn't apply to triplets as well. Then again I never did take much interest in biology in HTX (picked up enough to get a B+, but didn't really care), so I could be wrong.

I think that someone said that on DVD is confirmed they are not triplets.

Wouldn't it seem that Mom is too old to be able to have children anyway?  But since it is the future, maybe people can be able to have children longer.  In that case, maybe Mom and Farnsworth got together after breaking up, and they both forgot about it or something.  *shrug* Just a hypothesis.

Maybe Ignar was born after what happened between Mom and the Professor on "Mother's Day" and then it turned out that the time machine from "A Clone Of My Own" actually did work and then Ignar stole it and used to go back in time and brainwashed Mom to think that he was born earlier.

Farnsworth is the only man mom ever loved so unless she did it with someone she didn't love they must be farnsworths sons.

Actually I think they could be adopted or they could be the professor's sons.

Igner could easily be the Professor's son.  They look very much alike and have similar brain power  :)

If you're worried about time lines, maybe Farnsie and Mom got it on about 40 years ago but because both are pretty much senile, they've forgotten.

This was my theory:

Years ago (in relation to the show, of course), Mom had her entire company’s future planned. Later in life, she was to adopt two boys, and they would grow up to take the company over when she died.

However, a short while before Mothers' Day, 2931, Mom was impregnated by the Professor.  After they broke up, Mom discovered this fact. She realized that the child would ruin her image and her plans, so she kept the pregnancy a secret.

When Ignar was born, he was secretly cryogenically frozen until the time when Mom adopted the two baby boys she planned on having. So, many years later, Larry and Walt were adopted and Ignar was unfrozen. Mom raised them as if they were all her own under the ruse that their father had died, using her now established image, charms, and media propaganda to win over the public's belief.

I don't understand why Ignar rather than Walt would be the Prof's son...he's the stupidest, and the Prof is pretty intelligent...albeit completely senile.

At least two of them would have to be identical (unless they were the result of some kind of fertility treatment, which they probably would be).

I'm well aware that I'm responding to a post from over seven months ago.

try to butter me up with candy huh?....

anyway,
i would be interested to know who exactly igner is...the youngest (stupid) one???  and I don't see why the professor couldn't have donated to a sperm bank and them mom taken pot luck fifty years later (assuming she still was able to have children through the miracle of science).  another profound theory- I'm the hero!
anyway, i digress.....
