Just thought I'd repeat this from earlier in the thread.

Although Leela did not seem impervious to the brains, she seemed to be less influenced by them. Despite the note with what to do was destroyed, she managed to bring the information across to Fry on her own, which the Nibblonians had not thought possible.

About the "other one": a possible explanation would be that the Nibblonians have a prophecy that states that two will come and defeat the brainspawn. One of them is clearly Fry, for they knew who to put into the freezer. And the other one? Perhaps Leela has some qualities yet unknown that make her interesting for fighting the brains as well. But perhaps it's her "guardian" role as well - she has saved Fry countless times, and without her he wouldn't have survived long enough to be a threat for the brains. Perhaps he and Leela are sort of a legendary team, and only both together can assure eventual victory.
If the rumours about the show being revived are true, we will undoubtedly see more development on this subject. Should be interesting...

Ah... no.
It's been made pretty obvious that there's something more than merely "unresolved romantic tension" between Fry & Leela.
Sadly, the series didn't last long enough to resolve "The Other" plot line.  :(

Thank you for restating what (I daresay) everyone on this board already knows.

On what information do you base this assertion?
Am I missing something?
Well... besides all those brain-cells...  :p
While I am certainly not the last word on the latest with Futurama, I've heard no information about possible plot content.
Do you know something the rest of us don't?

Care to share?  ;)

Well, I don't have any info, but my gut instinct is that they will use the movies to resolve the rest of the Grand Story Arc hinted at in the "she must be the other" line, in the same way Joss Whedon used Serenity to resolve the arc he set up in Firefly

And I hope and pray, based on the commentary on the last season 4 disc, that they will get Fry and Leela together.

But I hope and pray even more that Leela's "other-ness" is more than just being Fry's helpmate or baby factory.  I'd accept something along the lines of the (brace yourself for really obscure reference) the plot gimmick of the movie Krull, where the completed marriage between the prince and princess gave them the power to defeat the evil alien demon lord whatever thing - the two of them together being stronger than either one alone.  Still, I'd be most pleased if Leela had a destiny of her own because of who and what SHE is (rather than just her connection to Fry).  Though I want them to end up together just as badly.  :D

What? What more could a woman want, than to be the bearer of the children of an important man?  :D :ducks:  :laff:

(and now for the serious portion of my response)

... Unless there was a lot more to it than you're explaining, that sounds a bit magical/mystical for futurama. TTBOMK the marriage ceremony doesn't bestow any special abilities, in RL or Futurama.

This seems unlikely, but I wouldn't have a problem with it; of course, even if her role is as Fry's protector, it doesn't mean their romantic relationship is a part of it; there's plenty of honor in being the guardian protector of the savior of the universe, especially if said savior would have trouble escaping from a wet paper bag with a pair of scissors (like Fry). I don't feel like that would reduce Leela's personal importance at all; I mean, who else could (and would) protect Fry from himself?

[Robot Sentinel]Guardian would also have been acceptable.[/Robot Sentinel]

Yes, the Krull thing was a bit mystical, but can be translated to a non-mystical context via the "power of teamwork/friendship" kind of thing.

You know, it might be funny if "the Other" turned out to be Bender after all...but Leela and Fry still end up together because of Nibbler's misunderstanding.  ;)

Well, they already work together though, don't they? Fry couldn't have saved the world from the brain slugs without Leela's help, and Fry would probably have died 50 times over in his first year in the future without Leela to bail him out. By seasons 3 and 4 Bender probably would have saved fry if he could, but in season 1 he would most likely pointed and laughed as Fry got mugged/killed/eaten/etc.

None the less, if all Leela was supposed to do was protect fry, the Nibblonians wouldn't make such a big deal of her as "the Other" since if it came to it Nibbler could always have protected herhim.

Thinking back to "The Why of Fry" it seems that whoever the Other is (I believe it's Leela), they're clearly connected to fry, probably romantically.
