Hence the 'inside joke'...

No, I guess I'll explain. It's a reference to a character from the Discworld novels, by Terry Pratchett. The character is a 'history monk', who goes around the world making sure history happens the way it's supposed to (or at least the way it should go). But his job is always a 'sweeper', aka someone who sweeps floors with a broom, and main characters don't think he's important until he tells them otherwise. Earlier someone said that Scruffy should be a monk, and that made me think of this.

Come to think of it, if anyone in the Futurama universe is a history monk, it's Nibbler... but it's more fun with Scruffy.

It was in fact me who suggested that he was a monk, although this was because I could imagine him doing Matrix style kicks. I wish I'd put down the history monk thing. [sigh]
