I don't get it. Do you really not like the characters or do you just not like Family Guy?
Actually, I like Futurama a lot. And I like most of its characters. Bender gets on my nerves sometimes, but not to the point of my never watching the show again. (BTW I'm aware that I'm in the vast, vast minority in regards to Bender. And I also realize that he's a valuable character and does have his good points. He's just not my fave). OTOH I despise Family Guy. I hate that it's popular, because I'm just that petty. I want Futurama to be MORE popular. But Groening, bless him, isn't inclined to stoop so low as to, say, have Fry lock Leela in the trunk of a car and push the car into a river for a laugh, and so he's unlikely to draw the type of audience FG does. FG needs sensationalism to keep its jaded viewership interested. Futurama by contrast, is clever, witty and has heart. All those qualities are harder to achieve than sensationalism in any work of fiction, and requires more risk. I admire Groening for allowing his characters to grow and feel, along with being iconoclastic and wacky. In some regards, they're the true descendants of the Looney Tunes gang. I hope I made my point more clearly this time. Anyway, I did the best I could.
