I don't know if this means anything, but there's an episode of the Simpsons I saw once where fox became public television. They showed Bender (and Hank Hill) answering telephone calls as a real person. I think this still fits in with BrainDeadZombie's idea and that the Simpsons is just a show to the characters of Futurama.

Futurama has enough aliens in it with out Kang & Kodos,

Like Zoidberg, The Amazoniens etc.
