Leela is the love interest of the prime character, Fry: She's the first major character Fry meets in the future: She has a major role from the very first ep. Amy's a supporting character, and a good one, but because Leela is Fry's love interest, she (Leela) is- er, was (*sigh*) more important to the show. Perhaps if, way back when, the writers chose to develop the Fry-Amy thing more deeply, Amy would be as fully developed as Leela is now. But, for whatever reasons, the writers didn't choose that option. If they had, Futurama would be drastically different that the show we've come to know and love. Fry's love life would be completely different, and there might not be the Amy/Kif plot line (no KGNUAN?).
Note that I make no claims that one is any better than the other, but different.

Hmm... sounds like a good idea for a fan fic.

The idea is a good one and just reminded me I really, really need to finish "The Frylight Zone" But I'm so busy being lazy!  I think both girls are sexy in their own right, but I still think Leela is sexier. She's unusual and she still manages to look hot.

Leela is more, hmm, deeper.  Amy's just a "go get going" type, and Leela is more of a "well, if i do this, or on the other hand" type.  Besides, I think short hair is ugly.  Leela is also a better girl role model.  She kicks ass, dammit!

Yes, 'tis a shame.  Count me among the Amy-obsessed, among those who feel she's an underused character.

That isn't to say I don't like Leela--I do.  In fact, odd as it may sound, Leela is my favorite character.  I do like her position as the "normal" character mixed in with the nuttier ones around her, to play off of her.  And I feel sorry for her troubled childhood.  She's a sweet character with a tough exterior.  But it's more not in the "please marry me" sort of way.

If it makes any sense, even though I prefer the character Leela, when it comes down to it, I want Amy for a girlfriend!  We know Amy's sweet and perky, and hell, I like that!  I don't care if she's a bit ditzy... that's never been a turnoff to me.  And Amy's sexy!

Yeah... I do wish Amy were a bit more developed, though.  I'd like to know more about her, myself, and I know I'm not alone.

I like the way the professor walks with his slippers and all. And his sexy passive-aggresiveness.

But since I prefer girls I would have to say Leela. She has the cutest smile and the largest melons. Quoting Gerald Ford "He gets this way around meaty-looking women" pretty much sums it up.

Although I'm just 14 years old so i guess my vote doesn't really count.

I like Leela for the same reason I like Ryoko and Aeryn Sun - Tourtered past.  Nothing like a disfunctional childhood to add some depth of character.

Course they are also very strong women, who have the ability to care deeply, and at the same time spend alot of there time beating the crap out of their love interests...
