I always thought Billy West made Zapp sound like what Phil's voice was going to be, but actually Billy auditioned that voice before Phil did. Still, according to the DVD commentaries the entire crew were very saddened when Phil was killed, just maybe a week after he auditioned himself. This is one of the reasons we have a Philip J Fry and not a Curtis J Fry.

Doesn't Billy west also do Hermes?  If so, wow!  All his characters are as entertaining as can be hoped for.  Especially Nixon and Zoidberg.  I think Zap is something many voice overers can do, so i'm not particularly blown away by him, although he is a cool character.  My hat goes off to Zoidy.  Go Billy West!

Billy West is great, but he doesn't do Hermes. That's Phil LaMarr.

Billy West. Fry, the Prof, Zoidy, Nixon... basically, all my favourite characters, except for Bender.

The snails are from the planet Wormulon. They are more like slugs, and they make the Slurm.

They have done a tremendous job with all of the voice casting on Futurama.  That is one of the main reasons that it is my favorite show.  The sound effects are great, too.

If I had to pick one scene that tickled me the most, it would have to be David Herman's performance as the veterinarian in "I Second That Emotion."  I don't know why that one sets me off, but it gets me every time.   :)

I read somewhere that Phil Hartman was first choice to be Zapp Brannigan. I think that would have been great, especially if you've ever played Blasto.

Yes, he did. Which is why he isn't Zapp.

Yeah, thats why Gil is the new lawyer. They're inflating his character so he can take over those areas.

Billy West definately gets my vote. That guy is incredible, so many shows, when it comes to voices that guy is like "Voice God".
He even does those stupid aliens on the Pentium4 ads.

Lets not forget some of his other works-
The announcer on Where in the World is carmen sandiago.
Red m&m
The special guest mouse "Larry" on Pinky and the Brain.
Ren and Stimpy.
He worked on Voltron in the third dimension
Howard Stern radio show
He was the ever annoying voice of Woody Woodpecker on the late 90s remake
He's worked on Comedy Central's Crank Yankers
He was also the voice of Invader Zim (only in the pilot episode I believe)
He was also the voice of Dog on Catdog (Jim Cummings was Cat).

And I am sure he has done more... This is just off the top of my head

I've just watched Space Jam and Billy West, Maurice LaMarche and Frank Welker all did some of the voices on that.

They're all at the top of their game. A spectacular cast. It's the minor characters who crack me up most - "But she's a firecracker" "Why you so stoopid, stoopid?"

*BUMP*

The other day I was at Goodwill. I saw amongst their usually dismal array of computer games the box for Full Throttle, an adventure game by Lucasarts. I've played most of Lucasarts other adventure games (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade/Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max Hit the Road, etc.), and I'm a fan of Tim Schafer who worked on this game. It was only $3, and the game disc was still in its orginal packaging.

So I've been playing through  the game, and once you've started paying attention to voice actors like I have with Futurama, you never quit. On a hunch I suspected that Maurice LaMarche was among the voice talent, playing the chracter Nestor. I checked and I was right, but made anohter discovery: Tress Macneille (sp?) also contibuted to the voice acting!

Maurice was easy to spot because he was using a voice similar to that he used as Brain in Pinky & the Brain. Later on, when Tress' character, Suzi, appeared, I was blown away: the voice is almost exactly the same as the voice she uses for Mom, mixed witha little bit of the Slurm queen.

I thought it was pretty cool.  :)

I used to go to Stoogecons with Billy.  He cosplayed as Larry Fine, and he was perfect  His wife didn't approve of it, so he stopped doing it.  I haven't seen him in years...

I love them all.  Billy West does a heap on the Woody Woodpecker show, too.  If you listen to the Walrus character (I *think* that's Billy, correct me if I'm wrong) there's a little bit of Zoidberg in there.  That escaping noise is off the Three Stooges.

By the way, Tress MacNeille is *not* the voice of Cubert, dude.  That's Kath Soucie.

Tress did Guenter in 1ACV11.

John DiMaggio is also the voice of Randy, the camp dude who has speaking appearances in 1ACV03, 2ACV05 and an episode I don't know the number for where he works in a jewellery store.  He shows up in a lot of crowd scenes, too.
