Spoilers for "I Second That Emotion," "Luck of the Fryrish," "Roswell That Ends Well," and "Leela's Homeworld."

Forgive me if this is old.  I haven't seen it posted.  Also, it's not that big a deal.

We have seen that the writers are thinking ahead.  They included elements in earlier stories that wouldn't play out until later episodes.  For instance, Leela's parents are clearly visible in "I Second That Emotion."  They are only there for a couple of seconds, but they are there.  There are other examples.

This is a new one to me: in the episode "Luck of the Fryrish," the following exchange takes place between Fry's father and brother in the hospital:

"Look Yancy, it's your baby brother Philip."

"I wanna be named Philip.  Me Philip!  Me Philip!"

"Son, your name is Yancy.  Like me, and my grandfather, and so on, all the way back to Minuteman Yancy Fry, who blasted Commies in the American Revolution."

Did you see it?  Fry's father skips the usual "and my father."

Now at the least we can say that it was because Yancy knew his father wasn't named Yancy, but rather Enos.

The neat thing is that the writers knew this.  The question is, did they know that Fry's grandfather was Fry at this time?

I have some further theories on this, but it gets into speculation, and the last thing I want to do is be right and spoil future shows for people.

Admittedly, there's a slim chance of that, but still...

Welcome to PEEL Timo!

I haven't seen "Luck of the Fryrish" recently, but that skipping the "and my father" bit does sound like the kind of clue they throw into an episode.  Good spot!

This was brought up in the weird scenes of roswell that ends well.  I would not be surprized if the writers had this plot for some time.  Also roswell that ends well was in the same production season as luck of the fryish, so it isn't that big of a stretch that the writers planned this earlier (it is even possible that Roswell was written before luck of the fryish, and the Yancy part was added in).  In my opinion, the whole you're Yancy, I'm Yancy, my grandfather is yancy, and so on was added in for that specific purpose.

I don't think anyone would mind if you state your speculations.  Actual *true* knowledge of the future episodes should be in spoiler tags though.

I'm going to refer to the much earlier discussion on this that I don't think is worth digging up - the family is obviously inbred.  Now, if you recall, Fry's mom had the orange hair and his dad had brown hair, yet Enos, who is Yancy's father, has the trademark orange hair and Mildred, or whatever her name was, had the brown hair.  So I'm thinking Fry's parents were cousins or something.

And I'm still not sold on Fry being his own grandfather.

Fry being his own grandfather might actually be the explanation to his immunity to the delta brainwave as the nibblonians said he had cobbled together an assortment of other brainwaves into a working mind... just a thought.

I totally missed the whole "and my grandfather" bit in Fryish.  That makes for one heck of a clue if you catch it.  I'm pretty sure Fry is his own Grampa, if for no other reason than that it makes for one heck of a joke.
