Sorry if this has been asked before:

Do the three main protagonists have different career chips?
Or do they all have the same "delivery crew" chip, and the specific position (captain, cook, delivery boy) is the company's business alone?
(I do ask because the professor picked a captain at random in "series has landed", and had no problem assigning a new captain in "Bird Bot of Ice-Catratz", without removing Leela's Chip)

I would guess the second option there. Career chips haven't really been a big deal throughout the series (they've been mentioned like maybe four times since the pilot ever?) and I don't really see why the Professor couldn't obtain new ones after the disappearance of his crew, despite Leela's protestations in the pilot.

Some career chip are accepted unconditionally...

Others are an obligation...

Yep, after all, Fry didn't really need one to become a cop, nor did Leela need one to sell real estates.
One question in this forum here brought me to that career chip question. I unfortunately seem to be unable to find it anymore, but it was basically "What is a starship captain certificate good for, when Farnsworth can pick anyone at random to be (new) captain?"

Little OT, but I somehow liked the underlying tragic in that, regarding "Leela's homeworld". She was supposed to play an example for the orphants (made something out of her life), when in fact it was not really a big deal to obtain that title.
And that character considering getting this rather meaningless title in exchange for never knowing her parents (quite an unfair deal) did somehow add another mean, tragic twist to her sadness in the locker room...(I doubt this was the writers intention...but yet...it seemed somehow fitting).

I think they last appeared in ITWGY. :p

Oh wait, according to the Infosphere they were in Law and Oracle.

Is being a starship captain a great job in the year 3000?

It has to be a fairly good job (see Cyber House Rules) but definitely not on doctor/lawyer/whatever level. Better than an entry-level job. It probably depends a lot on what ship a person is captain of.

Probably better than being a 'Defrostee Counsler.'

Still, Leela probably had other jobs before that.

Second, I want to hear the story behind your disappearance and random return, and how you managed to not mention it at all. :p

meisterPOOP is one of Peel's enigmas, don't try to understand them, you'll only be more confused...

He probably lost his forum-enigma career chip, and returned when he found it again ;)

Due to time dilation at velocities approaching the speed of light, it was only about three days from his perspective.
