I haven't seen this discussed much, but I was wondering what the feelings were about Amy becoming a major character?  It seems as though tonights episode will be featuring her largely as well

Uhm, she has always been a primary character.  Sure she is used a bit more, but I felt her underused in the original run.

There just were not as many Amy heavy episodes in the originals, I think

Well, there was the whole story arc of her and Kif, which was high on running during the third and fourth season.

Though, it seems to make sense that the first seasons of a show will always focus on the major primary characters, and then afterwards you need to use the rest of your assembly.

That is very true, and I can see why it would easier, esp. for Comedy Central, to go in the direction of Amy, rather than Hermes and Zoidberg(who has only had one subplot).

One of the best things about the new run is the increased focus on the secondary characters.

In the original run, I really felt that Amy was one of the weaker characters out of the main 7, probably ranking 6th beating Hermes only...

But you know what, in this latest series, she's actually been really funny! I really feel the writers have developed her character and managed to make her much funnier now, so well done to them!

She's had some really funny moments in this series, in the prisoner of benda, that darn katz, proposition infinity, and in-a-gadda-da-leela in particular.

She used to rank 6/7 for me, but now I think it's more like 4/7 (beating Leela, Hermes, and Zoidberg). I'm pleasantly suprised by Ms Wong's development!

I agree!  Amy's character has definately evolved!  I've always liked her character.  Since she graduated from Mars University, she really improved!   It's cool how the writers are doing more for her character as well.

Yeah Amy has definitely started to be more used, and she has become a hell of a lot funnier too. Amy seems to be more major these days, and I'm liking it.

Amy and Hermes have both improved for me (especially Amy), whilst, funnily enough, Zoidberg has kind of gone down for me..

I just hope we see more of her character being used.... the only downside is that it takes away from development time with Leela and Fry...  but i think it's well worth it, 'cuz right now Leela and Fry aren't going anywhere really... :hmpf:

The Fry and Leela development is the only thing that is ruining this season in any way for me. Amy has always been an indifferent character to me, but this season she has improved so much and I actually find myself laughing at much more of her dialogue. I have never liked Hermes as a character (and still don't) but I have even been able to find a few one-liners to laugh at from him this season.

So yes, I am happy we got to see Amy develop as a character but at the same time, I hope they do not keep putting so much focus on her as I prefer many of the other main characters, and even secondary characters much more than her.

Agree with this, though the character who is absolutely crushing this season is Farnsworth.

i've always liked amy's character and wished that she featured more.
does anyone remember in the episode, time keeps on slipping there's that part where fry is trying to figure out how he got leela to fall in love with him:

FRY
How did I do it? How did I get Leela to love me? I've got to figure it out.

HERMES
Maybe you're just a fantastic lover, Fry.

AMY
Um, no.

i know it's not 'knee-slappingly' funny but it was just the way she said it. :) i'm looking forward to seeing amy grow into an even funnier character.
