And Zoidberg comes from a videogame David X. Cohen programmed in high school called "Zoid". They just added the "-berg" for the Jewishness.

haha! thats pretty funny. Ive never seen him do any Jewish things, it would be funny though.

And getting back to the topic, I think his name is just Zoidberg. I dont know if his people have first names. Im pretty sure that female lobster called him zoidberg when he was trying to mate with her. So that begs the question of whether or not they even have first names.

Actually, if you bother to read the whole first page, it is established that the show gives his first name as actually being "John." It's both spoken and written down. I think that clinches it.

Well, there was Harold Zoid, but he was an actor on Earth so he ay have given himself the name "Harold."

I'm betting he has a first name, but it may be too difficult for a human to pronounce.
Or something.

"Dr. John Zoidberg

A Medical Corporation"

shows up on his door and/or his business card in one of the episodes

*Sigh*

People have forgotten how to read, evidently. Apart from the evidence I am about to give from the show, it has already been established in this thread that:

- In "The 30% Iron Chef" 'Fry's confession note' was written on paper which was footered by "From the desk of Dr. John Zoidberg MD"

- In "A Taste of Freedom", Nixon says "John Zoidberg" when introducing our favourite Decapodian at the end of the ep.

No confusion whatsoever. There has never been a middle name or initial given. That is mere speculation.

Interesting side note: Harold Zoid has the 'berg' dropped from his name, an allusion to the practice of early Hollywood of changing names in order to strip them of any 'worrying' racial/social ties. In this case, Harold (a silent movie/hologram star) has his Jewishness scrubbed from his name.

OK, John.
Very unusual name, but good enough for me.

It's John because of the irony.  Zoidberg being so weird and unusual and John being the most plain and common name.

Of course it's unusual.
For a Decapodian.

Then again, nobody said anything about Harold Zoid's first name...

In 30% Iron Chef Frys confession is written on a piece of paper which has from the office of John Zoidberg written on it, It is also mentioned in the episode were he eats the flag "And now a lobster that won't ruin your meal, Dr John Zoidberg".

I think people have said that at least a hundred times on this thread Walshyboy!

Although I do like the idea of the Zoid with the -berg being dropped because of the racial whatever just like in the early days. Clever.

this thread is great. I'm going to close it though because i don't think I could take it if another person speculated about Zoidberg's first name. oy
