I don't know if this makes any sense. I guess what I'm saying is that the ship was actually the highlight of an otherwise non-shippy episode...

Highlight for you maybe, personally I happened to really like the Convention parody stuff, but I guess you actually have to have been to a convention to get the jokes (not that I'm saying you havn't.)

Theres also another relationship on display here that of Ndnd and Lrrr, they're a pretty neat parody of an older married couple who argue a lot (maybe you've got to be of a certain age to appreciate that)

Thats not to suggest that I didn't appreciate the F/L stuff, because I did.

I'll get my coat now...

Hello everyone, this is my first post on here, and seeing as how the ship is one of my favorite aspects of Futurama, I figured I'd post here first.

Like someone mentioned earlier, I think that Fry seemed to have much more purpose when he started actively pursuing Leela, and I felt that the show is better for it.  I have been very pleased with how the ship has been handled in the latest season (it could have been a disaster), and I can't wait to see more.

Here's my personal take on it:  Although I would never want to jeopardize the dynamic of the characters and potentially ruin the show, I would like to see Fry 'grow up' a bit in later episodes.  I don't mean that he shouldn't continue to be his dorky, lovable self, but I think that perhaps It could greatly enhance his character to have an episode or two where he takes some of the load off of Leela's shoulders.  She has lived a hard life, and always had to keep her guard up, whether its against unsuitable men or potential adversaries, and it would be very mature and sweet of Fry to give Leela more opportunities to let her guard down and relax a little.

Of course, it wouldn't be Futurama if these moments also went horribly wrong and hilarity ensues, but I think that whatever happens it would ultimately strengthen the bond between them.

Greeting, shippy friends. I am now announcing the start of the Third [wikipeelia=Shipping_Culture#The_Official_Logo]Official Logo of the Shippers of PEEL[/wikipeelia] competition! You have two weeks to post your submissions in this thread, and then I'll open a poll. Why am I doing this? Well, partially because it's about time, another partially because it's noble, but mostly because I'm bored.

Commence with shippy art! I'll start things off with my submission, as always:

Because of inactivity in the Human Resource Department, I am going to give this another week. It isn't because I care, no, not at all. I'm absolutely peeved at all of you, in fact. I hope you all get your hair wet in the rain so that it stands up all frizzy-like and makes people laugh at you. So there.

Oh, harsh man.

Somebody needs to spark up an intellectual conversation on this thread. Like, before June.

Oh, and that Matt Tobey guy who insists all hard-core Futurama fans are "nerdlingers" needs to give us a real Futurama update- none of this fanarama crap (no, not what the fans do, just how he keeps taunting us bi-monthly with an update about something we already know about).

Ok! Finally came up with something to stimulate conversation.

Do you think Fry and Leela (or any other character pairings) would do it in a suicide booth?

I'm sure if one of them took the initiative, that could happen. Mind you, we know very little of the mechanics of suicide booths, and certainly not enough to make an informed decision about how sexy/dangerous this activity would be perceived to be by any particular character.

Wouldn't that be like having sex by the open knife drawer, under the gun rack, surrounded by a ring of fire?

And, is it just me, or does that sound so very, very Freudian?

The knives in the drawer aren't going anywhere by themselves, the guns are unloaded if they're on the gun rack, and the ring of fire isn't about to suddenly engulf everything around it. It all sounds like a rather large risk, but in actuality, it's just background decoration. Fry might be up for something that vanilla, but Leela would probably want something a little more adrenaline-inducing.

Leela does desire to be more impulsive, I think. I could see the two of them doing nasty things in all sorts of places, like Destructor's leg if the opportunity arose.

Yeah, even though that doesn't seem like a big deal, that was huge.  She never would have said, "why not?" before if Fry asked her that.  She probably would have slapped/punched/roundhouse kicked him in the head for that before.  She's much more impulsive now.  The PE crew had better watch out.

I never really saw the "mile deep club" thing as proof that Leela's gotten more impulsive. I thought it was just kind of a throwaway line, and it confused me more than anything else. Though maybe that's just me...

Yeah, I would agree that it isn't proof, not yet anyhow.  We'll have to see if it appears again in the next batch.  I also agree that it was a throwaway line, but this show has a history of throwaway jokes/lines ending up being running jokes.  After thinking about it for a while, I actually wouldn't mind if it did.  Bear with me here.  Think of it as a progression from how F&L would always be about to kiss/share a romantic moment but be interrupted - except now it would be like this:

Fry says something to the effect of - Hey, you wanna do it in the space broom closet of the alien space hotel, etc?  Sure, what the hell.  Then the professor or somebody interrupts with:  Not now you nymphos!  The plot is this way!

If this was done right it could be funny, and keep up some of the sexual tension that seems to have been lost in the newest season.  For it to work though, Leela would have to grumble as much as Fry at being blocked, instead of being indifferent.  Her reaction to the "mile deep club" was the part that put me off the most.

I just saw it as cementing her newfound willingness to accept both her attraction to Fry, and Fry's own impulsiveness. Plus, Leela's always seemed a little... easy... to me. I mean, Zapp got into her panties. Along with a couple of other less-than-totally-worthy characters.

For a moment, I thought Xanfor was going to link to TV Tropes, which would have been downright evil of him. 'Course, just thinking of TV Tropes makes me want to go there. Shit.

Fair enough. But I agree with Louis that her off-handedness about the whole thing (particularly being unperturbed by the Professor's cock-block) was a little odd and out-of-place.

I thought it was another stupid ages expression she was unfamiliar with. I sort of expected her to say something like 'it means have sex?!?' and slap Fry around the chops.

Oh, screw it. Guys, I've read several posts analyzing the "mile-deep" line and always getting... I don't know... "confused" by it. While I am not sure, my take is that the joke is that Leela thinks that Fry is asking her to join a club that is literally only about being a mile underground. Planes are an archaic technology in a time when most people own flying cars, so the phrase "mile-high club" doesn't exist in the 31st century. It was never sexual from Leela's side. Sorry if I came off exasperated but this been bothering me for a while (since I've fooled myself into thinking that that is definitely what the joke is).

Edit: Why do I skip posts when I feel I have something to contribute? El-Man, an apology from me for repeating what you said more succinctly than I did. I got excited and didn't see you there.
