Except (and I'm guessing here, since I'm not a big dog-person), people will not feel sorry for Seymour dying all alone on a cold sidewalk, when they know he will be brought back in less than a year. Well, he is supposed to appear "Bender's Big Score", or at least according to an early review of the script. We don't know if it will be before or after Fry got frozen, though.
